The Sustainable Mining Development team includes more than 100 employees at all levels of expertise, working on projects in geotechnics, water management, mine restoration, and environmental services for major mining companies such as Rio Tinto, Newmont, Agnico-Eagle, and Glencore.

Your Role

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer leads multidisciplinary teams in designing tailings containment structures. Supported by junior and intermediate engineers and CADD designers, they are involved in all stages of design-from concept development to construction.
Responsibilities also include participation in technical reviews (expert committees and audits), inspections of tailings facilities, stability reviews of dams, and other studies related to the design and performance of tailings installations. In some projects, the engineer will act as a technical advisor and as the designated Engineer of Record (EoR).

  • Participate in the design of tailings facilities and related structures, including preparation and review of plans and specifications;
  • Contribute to the development of mine restoration concepts;
  • Inspect dams with junior engineers;
  • Act as Engineer of Record (EoR);
  • Lead projects (approximately 800 hours);
  • Mentor junior engineers and actively participate in conferences.

About You
  • University degree in Civil or Geological Engineering and a graduate degree (Master's and/or Ph.D.) in Geotechnics, or equivalent experience;
  • Member of the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (OIQ) or eligible for membership;
  • Mining experience: 5 to 8 years in designing tailings containment structures;
  • ASP Construction safety card;
  • Strong knowledge of French and English*;
  • Familiarity with slope stability, seepage, and stress-deformation analysis software;
  • Experience in dynamic analysis and seismicity;
  • Excellent teamwork skills within multidisciplinary engineering teams composed mainly of geotechnical engineers, hydrologists, hydrogeologists, and environmental specialists.

* This position requires knowledge of another language besides French, namely English, as most clients and suppliers you will interact with are English-speaking and located outside Quebec.
