Job Title: Millwright

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production machinery within a sawmill environment that includes a sawmill, planer mill, and re-saw plant. You will work primarily in the sawmill, joining an experienced maintenance team to keep critical equipment operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair machinery and equipment in the sawmill, including head rigs, quad saws, edgers, sorters, stackers, log cut-up systems, and debarkers.
  • Complete preventive maintenance on all manufacturing equipment to ensure continuous and reliable operation of the mill.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faulty and malfunctioning machinery using manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other technical specifications.
  • Perform mechanical repairs and adjustments to reduce downtime and improve the performance of all sawmill manufacturing equipment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability, reduce breakdowns, and optimize production.
  • Follow maintenance procedures and documentation accurately to ensure consistency and compliance with operational standards.
  • Use welding and mechanical skills to repair and fabricate parts as required for machinery maintenance and upgrades.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment in accordance with health and safety practices and site procedures.
  • Support the broader maintenance team by assisting in the planer mill and re-saw plant as needed.
  • Work flexible shifts, including occasional Saturdays, to support maintenance coverage across different operating hours.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience as a millwright or maintenance technician working with production machinery.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical equipment and manufacturing systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, and other technical documentation.
  • Mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in repair, adjustment, and maintenance of industrial equipment.
  • Welding skills sufficient to support equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including different shifts and some Saturdays.
  • Commitment to working safely and maintaining a clean, organized work area.

Nice to Have Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a sawmill or planer mill environment.
  • Red Seal Millwright certification.
  • Experience working with older-type industrial equipment.
  • Background in maintaining sawmill-specific equipment such as head rigs, quad saws, edgers, sorters, stackers, and debarkers.
  • Experience in continuous improvement or reliability-focused maintenance practices.

Why Work Here?

The company offers a stable, long-term opportunity with steady and consistent hours in a family-oriented environment. Many employees have built long careers here, and there have been no layoffs for over 18 years, reflecting a strong commitment to job stability. You will join a tight-knit team with friendly management and a supportive culture where safety comes first. There is clear potential for advancement, including future leadership opportunities in maintenance as team members retire. The workplace values collaboration, loyalty, and mutual respect, creating an environment where skilled tradespeople can grow, be heard, and make a meaningful impact.

Work Environment

This is a family-owned industrial operation with a steady-paced yet laid-back atmosphere. The facility includes a sawmill, planer mill, and re-saw plant, using older-type equipment and a mix of indoor and outdoor work areas. The environment is loud while machinery is operating, and safety is the top priority, followed by production. The maintenance team currently includes multiple millwrights, with some team members approaching retirement, creating opportunities for progression.

Shifts operate Monday to Friday, and employees are expected to be flexible across all shifts: 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m., and 10:30 p.m.–6:30 a.m. There is no fixed rotation; shifts may change periodically, and you may work approximately one month on each shift.
