Job description

As a Millwright Apprentice, you’ll be performing a variety of diagnostics and repairs on industrial equipment. This equipment can range from electronics, conveyers, and compactors that provide support and service to our processing facilities operations. Additionally, you will be tasked with completing minor welding repairs, along with daily reporting and tracking of all of maintenance and repairs.


 

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on bins, compaction systems, and baler equipment

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues related to truck bins and plant equipment

  • Assist in maintaining operational readiness and uptime of recycling and waste handling machinery

  • Maintain and update service records, inspection logs, and equipment history

  • Work collaboratively with operations and fleet teams to coordinate downtime and maintenance schedules

  • Identify parts and materials required for repairs and liaise with procurement for sourcing

  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with GFL’s safety standards, policies, and regulatory guidelines

Requirements
  • Valid Industrial Millwright (433A) Certification in Ontario

  • 3+ years of millwright experience in a maintenance or industrial setting (waste/recycling industry preferred)

  • Solid understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems

  • Experience working with waste bins, compactors, balers, or similar mechanical equipment

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

  • Must be safety-conscious and familiar with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
