Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Millwork Designer / Engineer / Draftsperson who thrives at the intersection of design, engineering, and craftsmanship. This role is ideal for someone who understands how exceptional millwork is conceived, engineered, fabricated, and installed - and who takes pride in transforming creative concepts into precise, buildable solutions.

You will play a critical role in translating architectural and interior design intent into accurate shop drawings, 3D models, and CNC-ready production documentation for custom millwork, cabinetry, and specialty fixtures.

This is an opportunity to work on unique, high-end, design-forward projects where creativity, technical expertise, and problem-solving are equally valued.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Technical Documentation
  • Produce detailed shop drawings, fabrication drawings, and 3D models for custom millwork and architectural woodworking projects

  • Translate sketches, renderings, architectural plans, and conceptual designs into accurate, production-ready documentation

  • Develop CNC-ready files and support manufacturing workflows

  • Create nesting layouts and optimize material usage for fabrication efficiency

  • Ensure all drawings meet project specifications, production standards, and installation requirements

Engineering & Problem Solving
  • Engineer complex custom fixtures and millwork assemblies, including integration of mechanical and architectural components

  • Identify constructability concerns and proactively develop practical solutions

  • Recommend materials, hardware, finishes, and fabrication methods that align with design intent, performance requirements, and budget expectations

  • Support continuous improvement of drafting, engineering, and production processes

Project Coordination
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, interior designers, fabricators, installers, and clients

  • Conduct site visits and field measurements to ensure dimensional accuracy and successful project execution

  • Participate in project reviews and technical coordination meetings

  • Support estimating teams with material takeoffs, production insights, and cost-related information

  • Manage multiple active projects while maintaining organization, quality, and deadlines

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in millwork drafting, design, engineering, or related technical roles

  • Strong knowledge of architectural millwork, cabinetry, custom fixture fabrication, and woodworking construction methods

  • Proficiency in:

    • SolidWorks

    • AutoCAD

    • SketchUp

    • Swood

    • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience preparing CNC-ready files and nesting for production

  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, materials, hardware, and installation methods

  • Excellent technical drafting and visualization skills

  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management abilities

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a woodshop, cabinet shop, or finish carpentry environment
