Star Lumber & Supply Co., Inc. delivers confidence through our products and our people. Our Building Materials division is seeking a Buyer - Doors & Millwork to join our team. This role is responsible for managing the procurement, inventory, and vendor relationships for interior and exterior doors, door systems, and related millwork products. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced building materials environment.
Your Typical Day
Manage Inventory & Product Availability
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and replenishment for doors, door components, and related millwork products across all locations
    • Ensure accurate product descriptions, specifications, costs, and pricing within SKU records
    • Monitor inventory turns, stock levels, and profitability to optimize product performance
    • Analyze purchasing trends, sales forecasts, and seasonal demand to maintain product availability while minimizing excess inventory
  • Coordinate inventory transfers between locations as needed to support customer demand

Facilitate the Procurement Process
  • Assist internal customers with pricing, sourcing, and product selection for special-order door and millwork projects
  • Place purchase orders with door manufacturers, distributors, and millwork vendors
  • Review vendor acknowledgements for accuracy, pricing, lead times, and specifications
  • Monitor open purchase orders and communicate delivery updates and ETAs to sales and operations teams
  • Resolve vendor discrepancies, shortages, damages, and backorders

Vendor & Product Management
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with door and millwork manufacturers, distributors, and vendor representatives
  • Evaluate current product offerings and identify opportunities for new products, programs, and vendor partnerships
  • Participate in vendor negotiations regarding pricing, freight, rebates, terms, and purchasing agreements
  • Stay current on industry trends, product innovations, building code changes, and market conditions affecting door and millwork products

Collaboration & Operational Support
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on door and millwork promotions, product launches, and sales initiatives
  • Assist with accurate and timely completion of cycle counts and year-end physical inventory
  • Partner with sales staff, operations teams, management, vendor partners, and other stakeholders to support customer needs and company objectives
  • Provide product knowledge and purchasing support to inside sales, outside sales, and estimating teams

Requirements
  • Knowledge of building materials, with specific experience in doors, millwork, windows, or related construction products preferred
  • Understanding of door products, including interior doors, exterior doors, pre-hung units, commercial doors, hardware, and specialty door systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and web-based business applications
  • Experience in purchasing, inventory management, supply chain, sales support, or procurement within the building materials industry
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret inventory data, sales trends, and vendor performance metrics
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build productive relationships internally and externally
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience
  • Experience purchasing doors, millwork, windows, or related building materials
  • Experience using the BisTrack software program
  • Demonstrated success negotiating pricing, contract terms, freight agreements, rebates, or other business arrangements
  • Knowledge of door manufacturers, distribution channels, and industry supply chains
