Employment Type:  Full-Time, Permanent

Work Location: Based at 1240 Teron Road, Ottawa, Ontario, with work at client project sites and occasional travel

Vacancy Status: This posting is for an existing vacancy.

Expected Wage Range: $35.00 to $45.00 per hour. Placement within the range will be based on relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

Schedule: Project-based schedule. Occasional overtime, evenings and weekends may be required to meet client and completion requirements. Overtime is compensated in accordance with applicable law.

Terlin's Millwork Division produces custom interior and exterior finishes, cabinetry and decorative components using wood, laminates, solid-surface materials, synthetics, plastics and composites. The opportunity

Terlin is seeking an experienced Millwork Installer to build, assemble and install custom millwork and cabinetry from plans and architectural drawings, on time and to high standards of workmanship.

This fast-paced role suits a self-motivated tradesperson who plans carefully, solves problems on site and takes pride in protecting the customer's property and delivering quality work.


Key responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings, plans, rough sketches and technical information.
  • Pre-plan installations for custom commercial, institutional and hospitality millwork and cabinetry.
  • Install millwork efficiently using sound trade practices while meeting project timelines and quality standards.
  • Assemble wooden and metal furniture and fixture components, reinforce assemblies and install them in the locations specified on the drawings.
  • Complete required on-site modifications and touch-ups.
  • Identify issues or barriers that could affect completion and recommend practical solutions.
  • Use machinery, equipment and tools applicable to the trade in accordance with training and safe-work requirements.
  • Receive and unload finished products, and move custom millwork and cabinetry through stairs, tight areas and other site obstacles.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area and protect the customer's property.
  • Coordinate and problem-solve with supervisors and other team members, and work independently when required.
  • Submit required project reports using computer or smartphone applications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Work conditions and physical requirements

  • Ability to perform the essential physical duties of the role, with accommodation where required, including repetitive movements; lifting and carrying items up to 50 lb.; moving cabinetry components up stairs and around site obstacles; working in tight spaces; periodic work above 5 feet; and prolonged standing, walking, bending and kneeling.
  • Availability for occasional overtime, evenings, weekends and travel based on client and project requirements.
  • Compliance with all site safety rules and use of required protective equipment.


Qualifications

  • At least two years of demonstrated installation and assembly experience involving woodwork, cabinets, architectural millwork, store fixtures or comparable commercial work.
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used to construct and install cabinets and millwork.
  • Ability to work accurately from plans, rough sketches and technical information and to complete on-site modifications or touch-ups.
  • Professional experience with millwork such as laminate, cabinets, Corian, trim, wainscoting, kitchens, bars, mouldings, doors, frames and hardware is an asset.
  • Experience in millwork, finish carpentry, retail construction or commercial installation is preferred; comparable institutional or hospitality experience will also be considered.
  • Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality and pride in workmanship.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision when required and to follow the direction of the on-site supervisor when working with larger teams.
  • Demonstrated coordination, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfort using computers and smartphone applications for online project reporting.
  • Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to project sites, including occasional travel outside the Ottawa area.
  • Ability to provide standard personal hand tools. Terlin supplies the mechanical tools required for the work.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a Secret-level security clearance is an asset; this may be required for assignment to certain government or institutional projects.
