What is a mills hiring job?

Mills hiring jobs refer to employment opportunities available at mills, which are industrial facilities that process raw materials such as grain, lumber, textiles, or metals into finished products. Common positions at mills include machine operators, maintenance technicians, quality inspectors, and laborers. These jobs often require physical stamina, technical skills, and the ability to work in fast-paced environments. Mills may offer both entry-level and specialized roles, depending on the type of mill and the products they produce.

Job description

CNC Machinist (Mills & Lathes)

Direct-hire, permanent position. Pay is $17 to $35 per hour, based on experience and skill.

Melben is hiring an experienced CNC Machinist for a precision machine shop in the Dayton, Ohio area. The shop runs tough materials, including Inconel and other high-temperature alloys, and the work calls for someone who can take a job from print to finished part without being walked through it.

This is a direct-hire position on the employer's payroll from day one, not a temp placement. Target start is early September.

What You Will Do

  • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes on close-tolerance work
  • Read and work from blueprints, work instructions, and inspection requirements
  • Do your own setups, tool changes, and offsets, and prove out first articles
  • Edit and troubleshoot CNC programs at the control
  • Inspect your own parts in process using mics, indicators, calipers, and other precision tools
  • Work confidently with tough, hard-to-machine materials like Inconel

What We Are Looking For

  • 5 or more years of CNC machining experience preferred
  • Proficient setting up and operating both mills and lathes
  • Comfortable owning a setup start to finish, not just running someone else's program
  • Experience machining tough alloys such as Inconel is a strong plus
  • Able to read blueprints and hold tight tolerances
  • Able to work on your own and still be a good teammate

Why Work Here

  • Direct hire on the employer's payroll from day one, not a temp assignment
  • Pay set by what you can actually do, up to $35 an hour
  • Permanent, full-time position with a shop that machines demanding materials
  • On-site in the Dayton, OH area

Shift and Pay

  • Shift: 1st shift
  • Pay: $17 to $35 per hour, based on experience and skill level

Physical Requirements

This job means standing for long stretches, using your hands and arms most of the shift, and lifting up to 50 pounds now and then. Reasonable accommodations can be made where it makes sense.
