Job description

NOW HIRING: We are looking for a Stainless Steel Submerged Arc Welder to join our Pole Pre-Assembly team in our Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) Business Unit. The Stainless Steel Submerged Arc Welder responsible for the set-up and operation of a submerged arc seam welding machine to place a continuous weld on one or two sides of pole shafts.

Location: Winsted, MN
Salary Range: $22.95 - $27.00/hour (non-exempt)
(In compliance with Minnesota Pay Transparency Law, this range reflects the anticipated compensation for this role. Actual pay may vary based on experience, education, and other factors.)
Shift Schedule: 2nd shift Monday – Thursday 3pm – 1am or Weekend shift Friday - Sunday 5am - 5pm
Shift Differential
: 2nd shift - $1.50/hour, Weekend shift - $2.50/hour

As a Stainless Steel Submerged Arc Welder, you will:

  • Fuse (weld) metal pole shafts together by means of Submerged Arc Welding process in the fabrication of steel poles
  • Performs welding operations requiring most of the following: working from prints and drawings or other specifications; requires a knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals; setting up work and determining operation sequences; welding objects involving critical safety and load requirements
  • Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipment
  • Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery
  • Use hand tools and measuring devices in the performance of work
  • Move pole shafts using an overhead crane
  • Monitor the production board and internal paperwork to perform tasks in the designated sequence
  • Enter job data in production tracking system
  • Must be AWS SAW certified within 90 days
  • Weld quality from this operator consistently pass NDT examination
  • Escalates equipment or quality issues
  • Typically, is going to operate 1 seam welding machine
  • Perform work at the appropriate pace to maintain quality and productivity requirements
  • Follow company policies in relation to safety, cleanliness, attendance etc.

Role Qualifications as a Stainless Steel Submerged Arc Welder:

  • Experience with welding, specifically Stainless Steel TIG Welding
  • Successful completion of AWS certified SAW within 14 days
  • Prefer graduation from an accredited trade school for welding
  • Proficient knowledge in interpreting blueprints, mechanical drawings, and weld symbols
  • Working knowledge of weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.)
  • Knowledge of welding properties of a variety of metals
  • Ability to perform basic shop math functions
  • Ability to set up work and determine operation sequence
  • Ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions
  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment
  • Ability to electronically record production information
  • Ability to read and understand required internal manufacturing paperwork in English
  • Able to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or procedures

Physical Demands (Production Roles):

This position requires the individual to wear and work in company-provided personal protective equipment (PPE). This position requires that the individual can lift a minimum of 50lbs. And, if applicable, can maneuver large, cumbersome equipment with the use of an overhead crane and/or forklift. Must be able to work in, on, or around equipment and machinery. The employee may need to perform work with the use of ladders.
