Job description

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a responsible and detail-oriented professional to join our team as a CDL Truck Driver on our Milk Run Route at our Lawrence, KS location.
A Milk Run Driver will perform all tasks required in the completion of all phases of product handling. This person will also provide deliveries to customers in a safe and timely manner and will compete all work through adherence to product specification, company policy/procedures and acceptable standards. This person must be available for a minimum of two (2) overnights per week. This role is a touch freight role and does require unloading assistance at delivery points.
Responsibilities / Requirements include:
  • Driving safely, following all DOT regulations for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Loads, unloads, prepares, inspects and operates a delivery vehicle - this is a touch freight role.
  • Responsible for performing warehousing and merchandise handling tasks in all phases of operation.
  • Provides customer assistance by completion of required staging and assembly tasks.
  • Ensures deliveries to customers in a safe and timely manner.
  • Responsible for accurately loading customers and inspecting for damaged materials.
  • Provides personal attention to customer requests or product needs during loading.
  • Maintains and practices company and DOT safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures building and product security including inventory and damage control.
  • Responsible for maintaining Federal and State required logs.
  • Assume responsibility for cash and company credit card and submit timely expense reports.
  • Must be able to be a back-up driver for operating vehicle to transport material to Kansas manufacturing facilities.
  • Assists in the completion of production orders.
  • Accurately unloads and receives incoming product.
  • Responsible for other duties as reasonably assigned.

Qualifications for the position include:
  • Valid Class A CDL and meet the minimum DOT age requirement of 21 years old.
  • Three (3) to five (5) + years of driving experience.
  • Clear and effective written and oral communication in the English language.
  • Superb driving record to include:
  • Tickets
    • No more than two (2) tickets for moving violations or driving without proof of insurance in the past twelve (12) months.
    • No more than four (4) tickets for moving violations or driving without proof of insurance in the past three (3) years.
    • No DWI's or DUI's within the last five (5) years in a personal or commercial vehicle.
    • No tickets in the past three (3) years for; fleeing / eluding a police officer or operating a motor vehicle without permission of the owner or driving with an expired or invalid license.
  • Accidents
    • No careless or reckless driving resulting in an accident in past five (5) years.
    • No severe accidents in a personal or commercial vehicle ever, to include U-turn on highway or backing across a roadway, rear-end at road speed, falling asleep, or rollover / hitting a moving vehicle due to loss of control.
  • Suspension
    • No driver's license suspensions nor convictions for driving with suspended or revoked license in the past three (3) years regardless suspension reason.
    • Never more that two convictions for driving with suspended or revoked license in the regardless the reason.
  • Ability to operate power tools.
  • Mechanically inclined.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Driving: This job requires safety driving over long distances and adhering to all DOT safety guidance.
  • Standing/Walking: Job requires standing and walking at destination and origin sites frequently.
  • Bending: Job requires doing tasks that involve bending.
  • Lifting/ Carrying: Job requires lifting and stacking of banded door panels to various levels. The maximum required individual lifting limit is forty-five (45 pounds). Must be able to safely work with another team member to carry or lift door panels in excess of forty-five pounds. Frequency of lifting and carrying is job task dependent.
  • Pushing and Pulling: Pushing of carts is often required. Occasional pulling to steer the cart is required. A force of 45lbs is required to move a loaded cart. Pushing forces required in excess of 45lbs requires two persons.
  • Manual dexterity and preciseness to grip small objects and maneuver hands/wrists and mechanical ability as it pertains to delivery vehicles.
