Position: Senior Field Service Technician

Job Summary:
The Senior Field Service Technician (SrFST) is responsible for the installation, commissioning, and both scheduled and emergency services for a variety of FMD products, including diesel engines, electrical controls, cranes, elevators, roll-up doors, and davits. The SrFST will lead field activities, ensure customer satisfaction, and maintain communication with internal teams.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Role:
  • Plan and achieve goals based on judgment and experience.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair products with minimal supervision.
  • Lead and direct regional associates in their work.
  • Oversee complete engine overhauls on qualified engines.
  • Handle occasional shop duties such as part inspections, assembly, and testing.

Technical Responsibilities:
  • Provide on-the-job and customer equipment training.
  • Offer first-level escalation support to associates.
  • Assist with on-site and phone troubleshooting for customers.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to resolve equipment issues.
  • Implement service documentation such as Engineering Change Orders.

Safety:
  • Follow all safety guidelines and wear proper PPE.
  • Report accidents or injuries immediately.
  • Complete required safety training annually.

Administration:
  • Submit accurate and timely reports (e.g., timecards, expenses, project closure).
  • Maintain certifications as required.
  • Ensure company property (e.g., vehicles, equipment) is well maintained.
  • Provide estimated arrival times to customers when necessary.

Customer Satisfaction:
  • Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams.
  • Complete maintenance documentation and provide it to customers.
  • Strive for "first-time fixes" to minimize customer downtime.
  • Maintain customer satisfaction in accordance with company standards.

Performance:
  • Maximize efficiency by combining service opportunities.
  • Evaluate equipment for appropriate billing status.
  • Adhere to company dress code and safety regulations.
  • Act as a role model for junior technicians.

Other Duties:
  • Perform additional tasks assigned.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
  • Education & Experience:
    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Minimum of three years of experience as an FMD Field Service Technician.
    • One of the following:
      • Associate degree in technical discipline and four years of military experience, or
      • Four years of military experience or similar industry experience.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Knowledge of diesel engines, spark gas test equipment, and controls.
    • Ability to read and interpret diagrams and blueprints.
    • Solid understanding of pneumatic, PLC, and electronic engine controls.
    • Experience troubleshooting and repairing independently.
    • Ability to manage technical activities and lead others.
    • Proficiency in providing technical phone support and training.
  • Other Skills:
    • Strong verbal and written communication.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude.
    • Valid driver's license.
    • Ability to travel up to 75% domestically and internationally.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 35 pounds regularly.
    • Specific vision requirements, including color and peripheral vision.
