Job description

Position Overview

Moog’s Military Aircraft Group seeks a Senior CNC Programmer/Manufacturing Engineer to support the Manufacturing Engineering Group in Torrance, CA. The role develops, optimizes, and sustains manufacturing programs for complex components, supports tooling/fixturing design, and serves as a key link between methods engineering and shop floor operations. The position is onsite with a 9/80 schedule option.

Responsibilities
  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs using CAD/CAM software for multi‑axis (3, 4, 5‑axis) mills, lathes, and mill/turn machines.
  • Develop and plan processes and methods for each operation in multi‑operation/multi‑functional machinery, including multi‑pallet/pallet pull systems.
  • Design tooling, jigs, and fixtures; produce detailed drawings or sketches to enable efficient and repeatable manufacturing.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation such as work instructions, process sheets, setup instructions, and SOPs.
  • Provide expert technical support to the production floor, troubleshoot machining issues, assist with first‑article inspections (FAI), and resolve problems with quality and methods engineering.
  • Utilize Lean manufacturing principles to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times and costs, and improve product quality.
  • Interface with engineering for feedback on manufacturability (DFM) and train/mentor less experienced production machinists.
  • Assist in research, acquisition, and evaluation of new equipment and technologies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred but not mandatory.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in CNC programming and operations, preferably in a high‑precision industry (aerospace, medical devices, energy).
  • Hands‑on experience with multi‑axis CNC machines and control types such as Fanuc, Siemens, and Mazatrol.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Siemens NX, CATIA, Mastercam).
  • Expertise in G‑code and M‑code programming.
  • Strong knowledge of GDT (GD&T) and blueprint interpretation.
  • Advanced shop math skills, including trigonometry and geometry.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments (calipers, depth gauges, CMMs).
  • Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate leadership.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Blend of office work (programming, documentation) and shop floor work (machine setup, troubleshooting).
  • Must stand and walk for extended periods and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
