Job description

Registered Nurse

The Registered Nurse is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care on assigned unit for residents and patients. Adheres to Nursing Standards and Policies, Facility Policies and Procedures and the Nurse Practice Act.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for nursing care based on the nursing process and in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, report, and document the residents/patient's behavior and physiological status.
  • Administer medications and perform treatments/procedures in compliance with facility and nursing services, policies, and procedures.
  • Guide the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or who may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, Medical Staff with delineated privileges and Physician.
  • Responsible for demonstrating clinical competence in the delivery of direct patient care and the implementation of the milieu management program.
  • Report accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding conditions of residents both medically and psychiatrically.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program with active licensure and registration by the Virginia Board of Nurse Examiners, as a Registered Nurse; bachelor's or master's degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the education, knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Experience as a Registered Nurse, providing clinical care, generally equivalent to 1 or more years; experience in behavioral health strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of general addictions and psychiatric nursing process, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting crisis and behavior management strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).
  • Must be able to handle multiple competing tasks, with minimum supervision, and take initiative on matters of revolving urgency.

Licensure/Certification:

  • Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact authority, as a Registered Nurse.
  • CPR certification required.

Shift Details:

  • Night shift (11:00pm- 07:30am) with rotating weekends and holidays

Physical requirements:

  • The physical requirements for this position include being able to stand, squat, kneel, sit, and lie on the floor for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. of weight.
  • Must be able to read, write clearly, talk, and listen.
  • Must be 21 years old or older.
