Description
The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is a people focused, award-winning, full-service consulting firm that offers a wide array of services including civil and geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, planning, landscape architecture, agriculture, surveying and construction support. Our talented staff of 650+ professionals deliver integrated planning, design, engineering and construction solutions to our clients from our offices throughout Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Alabama.
Due to continued growth within MSG's Civil/Municipal Division, we are seeking a Civil Project Engineer to join our Columbus, Ohio team. This role focuses on commercial site development while offering exposure to a wide range of public and private projects including industrial, residential, energy, and water/wastewater developments throughout the Midwest.
You'll work closely with licensed engineers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects from feasibility and permitting through final design and construction documentation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support licensed engineers in the design and preparation of commercial and site development projects
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical designs, and construction document packages
  • Develop feasibility studies, due diligence reports, zoning studies, and early-stage planning documents
  • Perform stormwater modeling, hydraulic/hydrologic analysis, and drainage design
  • Prepare cost estimates and detailed design plans for commercial and mixed-use developments
  • Coordinate with internal MSG teams including Surveying, Geotechnical, Environmental, Structural, Traffic, Transportation, and Construction Services
  • Apply agency standards and design criteria to support permitting and project approvals
  • Engage with reviewing agencies to address comments and guide projects through approvals
  • Support projects from conceptual design through construction documentation

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or a related field
  • EI certification in the State of Ohio required, with ability to obtain PE or PLA within 6-12 months
  • Practical experience in site development design and plan preparation
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D including grading, pipe networks, and plan set development
  • Experience applying municipal, county, and state design standards
    • (City of Columbus, surrounding counties, ODOT, etc.)
  • Experience preparing Hydraulic/Hydrologic reports strongly preferred
  • Roadway design and survey experience a plus
  • Utility design or utility field inspection experience a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable coordinating with reviewing agencies, municipalities, and internal project teams
