Lake Forest School District 67 is seeking a World Language French Teacher at Deer Path Middle School for the 2026-2027 school year.
Description: The French teacher uses multiple resources to engage all students and encourages them to use the language on a consistent basis. He/she has a passion for language learning and an understanding of the ACTFL proficiency standards. He/she establishes positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. The teacher possesses strong effective communication skills both verbally and in writing.

Essential Functions:
  • Instructional Excellence: Design and implement engaging lessons aligned with ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, focusing on the three modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational
  • Target Language Immersion: Maintain a classroom environment where French is used at least 90% of the time by both teacher and students, employing "comprehensible input" strategies (gestures, visuals, and cognates) to ensure student understanding
  • Intercultural Communicative Competence: Integrate cultural products, practices, and perspective into daily lessons, helping students investigate and interact with the diverse cultures of the Francophone world
  • Authentic Resource Integration: Curate and adapt real-world materials, such as infographics, social media posts, podcasts, and news snippets, to provide students with a "real-world" context for language use
  • Classroom Culture: Establish a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment that encourages risk-taking and consistent target language use
  • Assessment & Feedback: Monitor student progress through formative and summative assessments; provide timely, constructive feedback to help students move up the proficiency scale
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the World Language department and grade-level teams to align curriculum and share best practices
  • Communication: Maintain professional and proactive communication with students, staff, and parents regarding student progress and program goals
  • Professional Growth: Stay current with research-based instructional strategies and trends in world language pedagogy

Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Licensure (required and preferred)
  • A current Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Middle School French endorsement
  • 5 or more years of French teaching experience at the middle school level - preferred
  • Proficiency in the French language (oral and written)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
