MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER
The Milwaukee Rescue Mission Cross Trainers Academy (CTA) is a K4-12th grade Christian Academy in the heart of Milwaukee, serving students and families who are searching for a strong academic learning experience in a gospel-centered environment. As a Choice School, CTA is committed to offering a comprehensive, student-centered educational experience that serves the whole student. Our express purpose is to provide at-risk children with the opportunity for an excellent, Christian-based education that will equip them with academic, social, emotional, and spiritual tools for life.
Cross Trainers Academy is seeking a Christ-centered Middle School Science Teacher. The Middle School Science teacher will engage students in experimentation, research, discussion, critical thinking, and problem-solving, while integrating a sense of awe, wonder, and appreciation of God’s creation. This role encourages students to be curious and to have respect for the natural world, seeking out opportunities to integrate Biblical truth into the science lessons and help students process science through a Christian worldview.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday 7:00am-4:00pm amp; Tuesday-Friday, 7:00am-3:00pm.
LOCATION: North Campus, 1530 W Center Street, Milwaukee, WI. 53206
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide Life, Earth and Space, Physical Science, and Engineering instruction to 6th-8th grade students
  • Plan and execute demonstrations and experiments for Middle School students to experience science firsthand
  • Establish classroom/lab rules and regulations for demonstrations and for supervision of students as they conduct experiments
  • Maintain classroom and lab space and materials
  • Lead school-wide science fair
  • Embody and demonstrate a Christ-like character, consistently enforcing school-wide core values with an emphasis on academic development, ensuring that students exhibit the same values
  • Focus on instruction and adolescent development
  • Responsible for communicating and collaborating with parents and other staff members to ensure each scholar is making academic and social progress.
  • Engage students in learning process and implement effective classroom management practices
  • Attend and participate in scheduled devotionals, staff in-service, and parent meetings.
  • Maintain a neat, organized and engaging classroom environment, as well as keep accurate records
  • Fill in when needed for additional roles such as lunch, recess or dismissal monitors
  • Use technology, as needed, to fulfill use of the curriculum, classroom projection system, online gradebook and attendance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a relevant area of study (Science Education, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Teacher certification in Education and/or Secondary Science preferred, but not initially required (must be obtained within 3 years of hire).
  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse students and families
  • Competent in the following platforms/programs: PowerSchool, Word, Excel, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, IXL (English)
  • Proven skills in leadership, group facilitation, communication, and data collection
  • A workplace demeanor consistent with a Christian school environment: civil, respectful, polite, and responsive
  • Be in agreement with and subscribe to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission Statement of Faith and the MRM Statement of Biblical Convictions
  • Be a committed follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is evident in personal testimony and Christian conduct
  • Pass a pre-employment background check and drug test
PREFERRED:
  • Experience in an urban teaching environment
  • Track record of closing the achievement gap, making gains greater than 1AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress)
