Job description

Director of Guidance (School Counseling) - Middle School
Position Purpose 
Under the supervision of the Principal, assume all duties associated with being the leader of the Counseling Department in our building, both administratively and as a School Counselor. This would include directing department efforts in the three counseling domains of academics, social/emotional well-being, and career/college planning. Administratively this may include serving in a variety of ways with groups involving curriculum, tiered support systems, overall school leadership, student incentives, and teacher support as well as providing after-school supervision support at various events.  



Essential Job Functions

  • Leadership, supervision, and evaluation of department support personnel and school counselors.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services for students as well as classroom lessons for relevant topics, such as career interests.
  • Coordination of outside counseling services.
  • Creating, maintaining, and adjusting the master schedule throughout each year in coordination with the appropriate building leaders.
  • Maintenance of student records.
  • Oversight of enrollment and placement of students.
  • Oversight of all 504 Plans.
  • Participation in annual case conferences for special needs students.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with all stakeholders parents, teachers, students, other staff, township leaders, and community partners.
  • Take responsibility for guidance programming including orientations, high school scheduling, special events, and career-related field trips.
  • Run reports in Skyward student data management system such as class rosters, honor roll, and testing results. Pull data for tiered interventions such as attendance, conduct reports, and GPA's.
  • Supervise activities of the school during and outside of the school day.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research, and by maintaining professional relationships with members of institutions of higher learning and the business community.

Travel Requirements 
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
