Job Summary:
City of Houston’s Public Works Department is seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Specialist to provide advanced Tier II/Tier III desktop support, endpoint administration, and enterprise IT infrastructure support for an organization serving more than 5,000 employees. This role is responsible for deploying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and supporting Windows desktop environments, endpoint devices, Microsoft 365 technologies, and enterprise hardware while ensuring operational continuity and exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate has extensive experience supporting enterprise IT environments, diagnosing complex technical issues, and collaborating with infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity teams.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced Tier II/Tier III technical support for desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, peripherals, and enterprise endpoint devices supporting over 5,000 users.
  • Install, configure, image, deploy, upgrade, and maintain Windows 10/11 desktops, laptops, and enterprise hardware using standard deployment and endpoint management tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, operating system, Microsoft 365, and application issues while meeting established service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Support Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), user accounts, permissions, password resets, Group Policy, and identity management.
  • Perform device imaging, hardware refreshes, software installations, operating system upgrades, and lifecycle management of endpoint assets.
  • Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues involving TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, Wi-Fi, and remote access technologies.
  • Administer endpoint security, software updates, security patches, antivirus solutions, and compliance standards to ensure a secure computing environment.
  • Utilize Microsoft Intune, SCCM/MECM, or other endpoint management tools to deploy software, manage devices, and enforce security policies.
  • Document incidents, service requests, asset inventory, and technical solutions using an IT Service Management (ITSM) platform such as ServiceNow or Jira.
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure, Networking, Cybersecurity, and Systems Administration teams on technology deployments, upgrades, migrations, and enterprise projects.
  • Maintain operational continuity by providing reliable technical support during peak workloads and staffing shortages while delivering outstanding customer service to end users.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Five (5)+ years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, endpoint devices, desktop support, and Windows environments.
  • Additional directly related experience may substitute for up to two (2) years of the education requirement.
  • Strong experience supporting Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, Outlook, Office applications, desktop imaging, hardware deployment, and endpoint lifecycle management.
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Group Policy, and user account administration.
  • Experience with endpoint management solutions such as Microsoft Intune, SCCM/MECM, or similar enterprise device management platforms.
  • working knowledge of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, wireless networking, and remote desktop support.
  • Experience supporting enterprise security standards, endpoint protection, software patching, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Experience using IT ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Jira, or comparable ITSM platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced enterprise environment.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified, ITIL, or HDI certifications are highly preferred
