Join our innovative PayEdge Technology team at RBC, where we're building next-generation payment solutions that redefine how our commercial clients manage their finances.

In this role, you will provide technical direction for our product feature engineering squad, architect solutions that balance business needs with technical excellence, and guide junior developers through complex problem-solving. You'll work with product owners, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to design best-in-class technology solutions and ensure our platform remains resilient, secure, and future-ready.

You will be part of a team of enthusiastic engineers building front-end and back-end applications using modern technologies that shape the future of banking for RBC.

What Will You Do?

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Provide technical leadership for solutions from requirements through implementation, identifying key integration points and dependencies across our ecosystem
  • Collaborate with the solution architect to define end-to-end technical solutions and develop architecture solution blueprints that factor in enterprise architecture strategies, constraints, and business objectives
  • Conduct technical design reviews to ensure the conformance to the solution architecture and adherence to best practices
  • Mentor junior developers, providing guidance on complex technical decisions and fostering a culture of continuous learning

Feature Delivery & Implementation

  • Lead the design and development of complex, scalable applications using Angular and SpringBoot
  • Develop and support highly scalable, high-performance APIs and microservices within an Agile development team
  • Leverage AI-assisted developer tools to improve productivity, code quality, and accelerate delivery timelines
  • Identify opportunities to improve solution resilience, reusability, complexity, and security; build these improvements into project solutions
  • Ensure high code quality through automated unit and functional testing; champion improved testing automation
  • Automate processes within the development pipeline and identify opportunities for efficiency gains and reducing time-to-market

Platform Health & Risk Management

  • Identify technical issues and risks; define mitigation approaches and drive resolution
  • Debug and solve problems across our platform, actively supporting dev, test, and production issues
  • Champion secure coding practices and security protocols; ensure solutions incorporate security best practices
  • Contribute to and champion SRE and DevOps principles as part of daily work, building resilient and maintainable solutions
  • Raise awareness of technical and operational debt that could arise from tactical approaches

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work directly with product owners, delivery managers, QE members, and other developers to deliver exceptional products
  • Partner with architects and technical specialists to ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture
  • Lead production implementation planning in collaboration with support teams
  • Provide technical sizing and estimates to support delivery managers
  • Actively seek knowledge about new technologies and how they can solve current and foreseeable challenges

Knowledge Sharing & Mentorship

  • Share technical knowledge freely through code reviews, technical mentoring, and learning sessions
  • Participate in team demos and learning labs to elevate team capabilities
  • Help junior developers understand complex technical concepts and develop their skills
  • Lead technical spikes and investigations into emerging technologies and how they integrate with our existing stack

What Do You Need to Succeed?

Must-Have

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience
  • 10+ years hands-on experience with Angular 6+ and TypeScript
  • 10+ years hands-on experience with SpringBoot and Java backend development
  • 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and troubleshooting RESTful APIs and microservices
  • 7+ years of experience with cloud and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS)
  • Demonstrated expertise in security protocols and gateways (JWT, OAuth2.0, OIDC, SSL Certificates)
  • 7+ years of full software development lifecycle experience with CI/CD pipelines and thorough testing practices
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and experience working in Agile teams
  • Proven ability to architect scalable, maintainable solutions and lead technical discussions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear explanations
  • Experience mentoring junior and mid-level developers

Nice-to-Have

  • Knowledge of major architectural styles (message-oriented, reactive, event-based)
  • Microservice architecture design and implementation experience (load balancing, discovery, resiliency patterns)
  • Experience with GraphQL and modern API frameworks
  • Experience with data streaming platform, e.g. Kafka
  • End-to-end integration automation testing experience
  • Experience with AI coding assistants (Copilot, Windsurf, Claude Code, etc.)
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability platforms (Dynatrace, Catch Point, Prometheus)
