The Mid Level Back End Developer typically has more experience and handles complex tasks independently, while the Junior Back End Developer is in the early stages of their career, focusing on learning and assisting with basic tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Level Back End Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Level Back End Developer, you need proficiency in server-side languages (such as Java, Python, or Node.js), database management, and a solid understanding of API design and data structures, usually supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with frameworks (like Spring Boot or Express), version control systems (such as Git), and containerization tools (like Docker) is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams make you stand out in this role. These skills ensure robust, scalable backend systems and efficient teamwork, both of which are vital for delivering high-quality software products.

What are the typical responsibilities and collaboration points for a Mid Level Back End Developer within a software development team?

As a Mid Level Back End Developer, your daily responsibilities often include designing, implementing, and maintaining server-side logic, APIs, and database schemas. You will regularly collaborate with front-end developers to ensure seamless data exchange and with DevOps engineers to optimize deployment pipelines. Mid level roles also involve code reviews, troubleshooting, and contributing to architectural decisions. This position provides opportunities to mentor junior developers and work closely with product managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

What are Mid Level Back End Developers?

Mid Level Back End Developers are software professionals who specialize in server-side development, typically with 2-5 years of experience. They design, build, and maintain the logic, databases, and APIs that power web and mobile applications. Unlike entry-level developers, they are expected to work independently on complex features, contribute to architectural decisions, and collaborate closely with front end developers. Their work ensures that applications are scalable, secure, and efficient, making them an essential part of any software development team.

Job description

Overview
ENERCON is seeking a Mid-Level Power Uprate Analysis Engineer to join our growing team of nuclear professionals. In this role, you'll contribute to the evaluation and implementation of power uprates at nuclear facilities, helping to increase reactor output safely and efficiently. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, gaining exposure to a wide range of technical challenges and project scopes. This is an exceptional opportunity for engineers who aspire to grow into advanced technical and leadership roles. Power uprates span the entire plant and typically involve major upgrades such as replacing large pump motors, generators, high-pressure turbines, and feedwater heaters. As such, this role provides a comprehensive understanding of plant systems and their interdependencies.
We're committed to supporting your career development-whether you're building toward technical specialization, project leadership, or future management roles, we provide the tools and mentorship to help you succeed. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside senior subject matter experts (SMEs), receive dedicated mentorship, and be groomed as a future power uprate specialist. Over time, these individuals will play a key role in training others and leading studies and follow-up modifications whatever career path they choose.
We're looking for engineers with a solid foundation in nuclear engineering and a desire to grow into a subject matter expert. We encourage you to explore this exciting opportunity and become part of our innovative and impactful team-where your work will help bring more nuclear power to the market. This position offers flexibility with opportunities in:
  • Birmingham, AL
  • San Luis Obispo, CA
  • Palm Beach Gardens, FL
  • Kennesaw, GA
  • Naperville, IL
  • Overland Park, KS
  • Baton Rouge, LA
  • King of Prussia, PA
  • Chattanooga, TN
  • Fort Worth, TX

We encourage you to explore this exciting opportunity and become part of our innovative and impactful team.
Responsibilities
As a mid-level engineer, you'll support engineering analyses and design modifications related to power uprates. You'll collaborate with senior engineers and project teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions while continuing to grow your expertise in nuclear systems and plant operations.
  • Strategic Impact: Power uprates are rapidly becoming a cornerstone of U.S. energy policy, driven by recently passed legislation aimed at accelerating clean energy deployment. This role places you at the center of that transformation. Power uprates are the quickest and most cost-effective way to bring more nuclear power on-line
  • Career Springboard: With the U.S. targeting a fourfold increase in nuclear capacity-from ~100 GW today to 400 GW by 2050-power uprates are anticipated to only contribute approximately 8 GW. To meet this ambitious goal, the industry will soon shift focus to designing and constructing new reactors, including advanced and small modular reactor technologies. This role positions you to transition seamlessly into those future projects, giving you a front-row seat to the next generation of nuclear development
  • Mentorship & Growth: Work alongside senior subject matter experts (SMEs) who will provide hands-on mentorship and help you develop into a future power uprate specialist
  • Leadership Pathways: This role is designed to groom engineers for leadership-whether you choose to specialize technically, lead teams, or guide future uprate studies and modifications
  • Collaborative Culture: Join a team that values innovation, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement
  • Design Margin Evaluation: Conduct detailed engineering studies to assess available design margins across nuclear plant systems, including reactor core, steam generators, feedwater systems, and electrical infrastructure
  • System Impact Analysis: Evaluate the impact of increased power levels on plant systems, components, and structures. Identify potential bottlenecks or limitations and propose engineering solutions
  • Modification Identification & Scoping: Determine necessary plant modifications to accommodate the new power level, including mechanical, electrical, and I&C changes. Develop scopes of work and support cost-benefit analyses
  • Cross-Disciplinary Coordination: Work closely with design engineering, licensing, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure alignment on uprate strategy and implementation
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, design change packages, and presentations for internal stakeholders and regulatory bodies. Maintain accurate records of evaluations and decisions
  • Vendor & Contractor Interface: Support engagement with external vendors and contractors for specialized studies, equipment upgrades, and implementation planning#LI-SH7

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Civil, or related discipline) from an ABET accredited university
  • 3-10 years of experience performing nuclear power design engineering
  • 1-2 years of experience performing nuclear power design engineering related to uprates
  • PE license or progress toward licensure is a plus
  • Experience evaluating large scale power generation systems following industry accepted electrical codes and standards such as IEEE, IEC, NEC, and NERC; preferably in nuclear
  • Proficiency in understanding highly technical topics in the field of engineering using textbooks, white papers, and industry studies as basis and guidance
  • Experience in performing engineering studies and analysis in one or more of the following disciplines:
    • Electrical: load flow, short circuit, arc flash, equipment protection, sequence of operation, and transient stability
    • Mechanical: thermal-hydraulic evaluations, system flow modeling, pump and valve sizing, and stress analysis
    • Civil/Structural: structural load assessments, seismic and wind evaluations, foundation design reviews, and support modifications for uprate-related equipment

Compensation Range
USD $90,000.00 - USD $110,000.00 /Yr.
