As one of the fastest-growing firms in the energy waste reduction movement, SEEL (Solutions for Energy Efficient Logistics) delivers residential and commercial energy efficiency program management solutions for utility and municipal clients nationwide. As SEEL continues to scale, we are seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations, strengthen internal controls, and ensure financial integrity across a complex, multi-program environment.
This role is modeled on best practices observed at peer organizations such as CLEAResult and ICF, emphasizing GAAP compliance, revenue recognition for utility programs, scalable processes, and strong people leadership within a mission-driven organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, revenue recognition, payroll accounting, AP/AR, and month-end close processes
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
  • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to support audit readiness and organizational growth
  • Partner closely with the VP of Finance and executive leadership to provide financial insights, risk identification, and decision support
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration
  • Oversee utility program revenue accounting, contract review, and cost allocation practices common to energy efficiency program administrators
  • Support development and monitoring of budgets, rolling forecasts and program-level financial performance
  • Coordinate external audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Support system enhancements and process automation initiatives to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required; master's degree preferred
  • CPA highly desired
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in mid-sized or growing organizations
  • Deep knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting standards
  • Experience in utility program accounting, energy efficiency, consulting, or government-funded programs preferred
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage deadlines, and communicate complex financial topics clearly
  • Advanced proficiency with financial systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience supporting or leading system implementations, automation, or process transformation initiatives
