The Director of Microsoft 365 Collaboration & Productivity is responsible for the strategy, delivery, governance, and operations of the organization's Microsoft 365 collaboration and productivity services. This role owns the day to day, and strategic management of the Microsoft 365 tenant workloads related to messaging, collaboration, content, and productivity, excluding identity, security platforms, compliance tooling, and endpoint management.
The Director ensures Microsoft 365 services are reliable, scalable, user focused, and aligned with business objectives, while partnering closely with Identity, Security, Compliance, and Endpoint teams that retain focused, and aligned with business objectives, while partnering closely with Identity, Security, Compliance, and Endpoint teams that retain ownership of their respective platforms.
Responsibilities
In Scope Platforms & Services
This role owns strategy and operations for:
  • Microsoft 365 service configuration and Feature enhancements for both Commercial and Government tenants
  • Exchange Online (email, calendaring, mail flow operations)
  • Microsoft Teams (chat, meetings, collaboration, voice if applicable)
  • SharePoint Online (sites, content services, information architecture)
  • OneDrive for Business (users backups, Geo restrictions, and Geo data storage)
  • Microsoft 365 Apps (desktop and web productivity applications)
  • Power Platform tenant governance (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI - non-security aspects)
  • Copilot adoption and governance (adoption and Evangelizing usage)

Key Responsibilities
Microsoft 365 Strategy & Roadmap
  • Define and execute the Microsoft 365 collaboration and productivity roadmap aligned with business priorities.
  • Drive adoption of modern collaboration patterns and productivity best practices.
  • Evaluate new Microsoft 365 features and services for business value and usability.

Platform Ownership & Operations
  • Own the operational health, availability, and performance of collaboration workloads.
  • Lead configuration, lifecycle management, and service optimization for:
  • Exchange Online
  • Teams
  • SharePoint Online
  • OneDrive
  • Oversee tenant level configuration related to usability, sharing models, and collaboration standards (in alignment with Security and Identity teams).

Governance & User Experience
  • Establish governance models for:
  • Teams creation and lifecycle
  • SharePoint site provisioning and ownership
  • Content organization and collaboration standards
  • Balance governance with ease of use and productivity.
  • Champion user experience improvements and simplification of collaboration tools.

Adoption, Change & Enablement
  • Lead Microsoft 365 adoption initiatives and change management efforts.
  • Partner with Communications, HR, and Business Units to drive usage and value.
  • Ensure end user training materials, guidance, and self user training materials, guidance, and self service resources are available and current.

Cross Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with:
  • Identity teams for authentication and access dependencies
  • Security and Compliance teams for policy alignment and platform integrations
  • Endpoint/Intune teams for client and device alignment
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for Microsoft 365 collaboration platform issues.

Leadership & Vendor Management
  • Lead Microsoft 365 engineering, administration, and support teams.
  • Manage Microsoft support engagements and third party vendors related to collaboration services.
  • Provide executive level reporting on service health, adoption, and roadmap progress.

Financial & License Management
  • Own Microsoft 365 collaboration licensing strategy and cost optimization.
  • Forecast demand and manage budgets related to productivity services.
  • Drive license efficiency and usage transparency.

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • 10+ years of IT experience, with 5+ years leading enterprise Microsoft 365 environments
  • Experience working with GCC high and knowledge of federal regulations
  • Deep expertise in:
    • Exchange Online
    • Microsoft Teams
    • SharePoint Online and OneDrive
    • Microsoft 365 Apps
  • Proven experience operating largescale collaboration platforms
  • Strong background in:
    • SaaS operations
    • Platform governance
    • User adoption and change management
  • Experience leading technical teams and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
