SQL Server Database Administrator (Redwood City, CA)

Job Summary:
The SQL Server Database Administrator is responsible for the architecture, implementation, configuration, maintenance, performance, security, capacity planning, migration, monitoring, troubleshooting, backup, and recovery of all SQL Server relational database systems to ensure high availability and consistent application performance.
This role partners with internal IT teams and vendor staff to build, support, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments that power transactional systems and the enterprise data warehouse. The position is also responsible for the ongoing development and support of the SQL Server data warehouse, including operational readiness, data loads, and data modeling to support multiple development teams.

Essential Functions:
• Provides end-to-end technical support, capacity planning, and problem resolution for SQL Server environments.
• Provides 24x7 support for critical production systems, including participation in on-call and incident response activities.
• Partners with IT Security to support annual risk assessments and respond to third-party security reviews and audits.
• Designs and implements database architecture aligned with best practices.
• Monitors and maintains the health, performance, and security of all SQL Server databases.
• Monitors and optimize system resources, including CPU, memory, and storage utilization.
• Develops and manage database logging, backup, restore, and recovery strategies.
• Maintains and enhances high availability and disaster recovery infrastructure, including Always On environments, to support resiliency and performance.
• Performs SQL Server version upgrades in coordination with application requirements and vendor support guidelines.
• Partners with developers to tune complex queries, improve performance, and refine database schemas.
• Performs scheduled maintenance and supports after-hours release and deployment activities as needed.
• Shares technical expertise through mentoring, documentation, and cross-training with team members and peers.
• Supports approved database service requests within established service levels and timeframes.
• Maintains an accurate inventory of SQL Server databases and related platform components.
• Ensures security patches are evaluated and implemented in a timely and effective manner.
• Follows established change management policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Completes required BSA and OFAC training annually and adheres to related policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Work Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• 8+ years of professional experience in Microsoft SQL Server database administration
• Experience with performance tuning and optimization using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Experience with database backup, restore, and recovery models
• Experience administering Windows Server environments, including Active Directory
• Experience with replicated, load-balanced, and high-availability systems
• Experience implementing and supporting SQL Server high availability group environments
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery options
• Advanced knowledge of database design, structure, and theory
• Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures
• Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift effectively between tasks and teams
• Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and project management skills
• Strong customer service orientation
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Commitment to continuously learning new technologies, features, and capabilities
• Familiarity with reporting and data visualization tools
• Ability to organize work effectively and operate independently
Licenses/Certifications:
• Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) - highly preferred
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) - preferred
• Microsoft Certified IT Specialist (MCITP/MCITS) - preferred

Compensation:
Pay Grade is T4. This position is eligible for our twice-a-year discretionary bonus.
Targeted Pay: $50.00 - $62.00/hour (Depending on experience)
