Summary
The Server Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Microsoft Windows Server environments, including associated hardware, virtual systems, and network services. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of server infrastructure supporting organizational operations. The Server Administrator reports to the Operations Manager and team lead and works closely with other members of the technology department to support enterprise systems and end users.

Responsibilities 
  • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server operating systems and related infrastructure
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, and user account administration
  • Monitor server performance, availability, and system health to ensure optimal operation
  • Perform routine maintenance, updates, and patch management for servers and applications
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related server issues
  • Manage virtualization platforms (e.g. VMware) and virtual machines
  • Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and data protection solutions
  • Ensure server security through access controls, firewalls, antivirus, and system hardening
  • Configure and manage file servers, print servers, and other network services (DNS, DHCP)
  • Maintain documentation of server environments, configurations, and procedures
  • Collaborate with network, security, and IT support teams to resolve system issues
  • Support cloud integrations and services (e.g., Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365)
  • Plan for capacity, scalability, and future infrastructure upgrades
  • Respond to incidents, outages, and service requests in a timely manner
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and IT best practices 
 
Qualifications & Requirements
  • College preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of Server Administration experience
  • Ability to work on-site Monday through Friday
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Access to a personal vehicle for travel to satellite facilities
  • Ability to perform routine and emergency maintenance outside of business hours
 
Technical Skills & Experience
  • Strong knowledge of current Microsoft Windows Server environments
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and domain-joined systems
  • Experience with Enterprise Productivity and Identity Platforms, including Microsoft Azure, Exchange, SharePoint, and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  • Experience with backup technologies (Commvault, Veeam, Backup Exec)
  • Familiarity of SolarWinds administration
  • Familiarity with Azure Arc and Microsoft Intune
  • Experience with Storage Area Network (SAN) administration (preferred)
  • Solid understanding of Windows OS installation and driver configuration
  • Basic hardware troubleshooting and component replacement (hard drives, RAM, power supplies, PCI cards, peripherals)
  • Familiarity with Oracle and/or SQL databases (preferred)
