Job description

One of our federal clients is seeking an experienced Microsoft Power BI Developer to design, develop, and maintain advanced business intelligence solutions. The developer will transform raw data into meaningful insights through reports, dashboards, and visual analytics to support agency leadership, operations, and oversight activities. This role requires expertise in Power BI, data modeling, and enterprise reporting tools, along with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement BI solutions using Microsoft Power BI and related technologies.
  • Identify, clean, transform, and load data into models to support business intelligence needs.
  • Build advanced data models, define relationship cardinality, cross-filtering, and complex measures.
  • Develop interactive dashboards and reports with parameters, actions, and navigation for improved usability.
  • Create dataflows, datamarts, and composite models; optimize performance of existing models.
  • Develop paginated reports using Power BI Report Builder.
  • Implement Row Level Security (RLS) roles and manage permissions for reports, apps, and workspaces.
  • Integrate Power BI with PowerApps, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Dataverse for customized automated solutions.
  • Support administrative functions such as data gateway management and usage reporting.
  • Collaborate with customers, project managers, architects, and business analysts to gather requirements and design solutions.
  • Conduct data analysis to enhance information management systems and agency services.
  • Document technical designs, develop scalable solutions, and ensure high performance across BI systems.
  • Mentor and coach team members on BI development practices.
  • Provide insights on emerging BI technologies and best practices to the team.
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in business intelligence and/or information management.
  • 4+ years of experience with data visualization and implementing BI solutions.
  • 5+ years in a client-facing technical role.
  • Expert knowledge of BI and data concepts, including:
    • ETL processes
    • Data warehousing, data marts, and cubes
    • Data governance and metadata management
    • Data quality and profiling
    • Predictive, prescriptive, and descriptive analytics
    • Dashboard/report design and self-service BI
  • Proficiency in DAX, M (Power Query), and SQL (Oracle, SQL Server, SQL Data Warehouse, etc.).
  • Experience with BI administration across multi-environment infrastructures.
  • Strong skills in report building, performance tuning, and data security (RLS).
  • Proficiency in one or more programming/analytics languages (SQL, SAS, R, Python).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with government software development policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with enterprise-level BI governance and compliance requirements.
Education / Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field

  • PL-300: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst Certification (or equivalent)
