Job description

Director, State Government Affairs Location: Remote/Hybrid (with travel up to 30%) Employment Type: Full-time Recruiting Firm: Symbiotic Services Overview: Symbiotic Services is seeking an experienced Director of State Government Affairs to lead and implement public policy strategies across a multi-state region in the U.S. The ideal candidate will be proactive, strategic, and skilled at influencing legislative and regulatory environments to support business objectives. This role involves high-level interaction with legislators, regulators, advocacy groups, and trade associations

Key Responsibilities: Lead the company's regional state and local government affairs strategy. Serve as the primary liaison with elected officials, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders. Monitor, analyze, and respond to policy developments and emerging legislative issues.

Manage external consultants and ensure alignment with company priorities. Develop strategic responses to proposed legislation or regulations. Provide detailed reports and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Build and maintain relationships with local political organizations and advocacy groups. Represent the company in industry coalitions and trade associations. Support event planning, budget forecasting, and internal communication efforts.

Define and measure key performance indicators related to government affairs. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, or a related field. At least 7 years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or public policy.

Deep understanding of U.S. state and local legislative/regulatory processes. Strong skills in strategic planning, public speaking, legislative analysis, and relationship building

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Teams. Ability to communicate complex issues to varied audiences and manage cross-functional teams. Willingness to travel domestically up to 30% and attend early morning/evening events.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field. Experience in a highly regulated industry (e.g., tobacco, alcohol, pharmaceuticals). Background in corporate, legislative, or regulatory settings

Work Environment: Hybrid role with in-office and remote flexibility. Requires regular use of computer, phone, and occasional travel. Must be comfortable sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
