POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Electrical Engineer defines product requirements, translate requirements to implementable architectures, perform detailed design work and ensure the end product is optimized for manufacturability.


Reports to: Senior Manager of Engineering


Location: Eden Prairie, MN office


Starting Salary Information: $100,000+


Key Responsibilities: Supervisory Responsibilities

This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead electrical design projects
  • Translate product requirements into implementable architectures
  • Conduct design analysis on components and/or assemblies ensuring designs meet technical requirements and are cost efficient, manufacturable, and reliable
  • Perform detailed electronic design of microcontroller and microprocessor based platforms and related analog/digital circuits such as power supplies, sensors, ADCs and DACs. This will include drawing of circuits using a schematic CAD tool (Cadence OrCAD or Altium) along with simulation as appropriate using tools such as SPICE or HyperLynx.
  • Conduct design analysis on electrical circuits ensuring designs will operate reliably across the required range of operating conditions
  • Gather technical data and prepare technical documents such as design verification test reports, written rework instructions, PCB placement and routing guidelines and Analysis of Alternatives documents
  • Maintain organized history of design artifacts utilizing a version control system and/or like tools
  • Complete assigned engineering projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelines
  • Communicate with other engineers and supervising project managers to coordinate and assure project completion
  • Prepare proposal documentation based on customer specifications
  • Contribute to electrical design best practices
  • Mentor electrical engineersnd finding suitable alternates
  • Assist in developing ECOs and route them for needed approvals.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • 8+ years experience in product design, pay and title commensurate with experience
  • Experience with embedded systems and microprocessor based design
  • Experience with functional aspects of product design including: requirements understanding, general electrical design analysis and documentation creation, design for manufacturing/design for test, and design verification
  • Experience working in teams including engineers from multiple engineering disciplines
  • Working knowledge of oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and vector network analyzers
  • Protocol-level knowledge of serial interfaces including SPI, I2C, CAN and UART
  • Experience with MS Office products
  • Ability to work with both internal and external (customer) resources
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment with quickly changing priorities to ensure superior customer satisfaction
  • High-speed digital interfaces such as DDR, PCIe, SATA, etc.
  • RF communications such as Bluetooth, 802.11a/b/g/n, Zigbee, GSM, CDMA or similar
  • Experience with RFID systems using either active or passive tags
  • Exposure to medical device design, aerospace design or other regulated industries is an added advantage
  • Analog design concepts and design tools such as SPICE and HyperLynx
