Description

Perform various laboratory tests and procedures while adhering to standard operating procedures on patient specimens to assist in the diagnosis, study and treatment, or prevention of disease. Uphold the values of the organization including providing and demonstrating exemplary customer service skills throughout the pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical processes. May perform tests including but not limited to standardized and semi-routine biological, chemical, hematological, immunological, immunohematological, microbiological, and serological tests in a research or clinical laboratory. Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and calibrate equipment and instruments as required. Operate laboratory equipment and troubleshoot equipment and instrument malfunctions. May serve as key operator for implementation of new equipment and procedures. Multiple openings available.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education / Experience: Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or a chemical, physical or biological science and two (2) years of experience as a Medical Technologist or related role where required experience gained.

Certification: Certification by one of the following accreditation agencies: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), the American Association of Bioanalysts (ABB) in Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Urinalysis, or another agency approved by the GA Department of Community Health, generalist or categorical if applicable.

 

Skills:

  • Two (2) years working in Chemistry and Hematology;
  • Working at a large hospital setting lab and the ability to work at high volume fast pace and STAT lab;
  • Large instrumentation with high throughput and performing instrument maintenance and troubleshooting;
  • Two (2) years of chemistry analyzers and testing menu, general chemistry, immunoassays, and manual chemistry;
  • Two (2) years of Hematology procedures such as cell counts, manual differentials, understanding cell morphology and ability to differentiate between normal cells and abnormal cells such as cells related to blood cancer;
  • Two (2) years of body fluids differentials and ability to identify and differentiate between red and white cells, platelets, other cells, crystals, and artifacts;
  • Two (2) years of Coagulation Cascade testing and the principle of the instruments and clot curves;
  • Urinalysis testing; automated and manual testing and identifying urines particulates including crystals and casts;
  • Monitoring and ensuring adequate inventory supply;
  • Maintaining accurate and completing documentation of patient information, equipment, and test results to comply with regulations; and
  • Documenting corrective actions taken for out-of-range test values.

HOURS: Primarily evening shift although not all shifts are evening. Must be willing to work evening shift as required.
