QC Scientist II – Microbiology

Location: Greenville, NC
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Pay Rate: $30–$33/hour
Contract: 1-year contract with potential for direct hire / temp-to-hire
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
On-Call: Approximately once every 5–6 weeks, including potential weekend coverage
Holiday Coverage: At least one holiday per year may be required

Position Overview

The QC Scientist II will perform moderately complex microbiological analyses in a regulated pharmaceutical laboratory environment. This position supports quality control and manufacturing operations by testing raw materials, in-process samples, finished products, stability samples, and production intermediates using validated, internally developed, and compendial methods.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory experience, strong knowledge of microbiological testing and GMP/GLP requirements, and the ability to accurately document, evaluate, and communicate laboratory results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process materials, finished products, stability samples, and production intermediates.

  • Execute validated and compendial methods for Bioburden, Bacterial Endotoxin Testing (BET), Particulate Matter, Sterility, and Water testing.

  • Recognize and report OOS, unexpected, and non-routine analytical results.

  • Support investigations and recommend solutions to analytical or product-related issues.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.

  • Accurately document testing activities, observations, calculations, and results in applicable laboratory systems.

  • Write and revise SOPs, work instructions, and other technical documentation.

  • Support regulatory documentation and communicate with internal departments, corporate sites, agencies, and clients as needed.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready laboratory environment.

  • Follow all applicable GMP, GLP, SOP, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience in a pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory or related regulated environment.

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative microbiological testing.

  • Understanding of microbiological method development and validation.

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical quality and regulatory requirements.

  • Strong documentation, technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, adaptable, and self-motivated.

Preferred: Experience with LIMS, SLIM, TrackWise, Documentum, result review/approval, or qualified checker responsibilities.

Schedule & On-Call Requirements

This is a Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, fully onsite position. Employees will participate in a rotational on-call schedule approximately once every 5–6 weeks, which may include weekend coverage. Holiday coverage may also be required, with employees expected to cover at least one holiday per year.

PPE & Physical Requirements

Required PPE may include safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, nitrile gloves, safety apron, and occasional respiratory protection. The role requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, perform laboratory tasks requiring manual dexterity, and lift/carry materials weighing approximately 10–35 pounds.


Pay Details: $30.00 to $33.00 per hour
