Job description
The Metrology and Programming Engineer supports and guides the quality metrology laboratory to ensure the success of the Quality Management System. The individual manages new product development metrology by assisting Program Management by defining a robust inspection methodology for successful new product development and production launch in support to Product Realization Plans. Must possess good written and verbal skills.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for defining new product inspection methodology for all new development programs
- Participates in Quality Requirements Review meetings for new project launches
- Provides integral support of program development and validation by reviewing customer designs in order to create, write, and execute accurate CMM and Vision System measurement programs
- Provides additional support in on-going production during times of mold maintenance, adjustment, and redesign by validating existing measurement and inspection programs or devising new programs for changed design
- Provides and devises inspection fixture concepts to support new program development; fixtures must be coordinated to specifically work in conjunction with the CMM or Vision System measurement program
- Responsible for conducting and managing Gauge R & R studies
- Conducts initial and supplemental process capability study measurements
- Assist Program Managers, Process Engineers, and/or Validation Engineers with dimensional analysis
- Conducts inspection correlation studies as needed to ensure inspection methodologies are aligned with Customer inspection method expectations
- Devises Quality Work Instructions as it relates to inspection techniques and software programs
- Ensures Engineering Lab equipment is in working order
- Provides training for new inspection techniques to production quality inspectors
- Trains production quality inspectors for transitioning new product development inspection plans into production phase gate release
- Provides investigative dimensional analysis for sustaining production quality concerns
- Performs limited First Article Measurements (as resources allow)
Core Competencies:
- Ability to effectively train technicians on program
- Proficient in metrology and calibration
- Working knowledge of statistical methods for manufacturing
- Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (ASME Y-14.5)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working Knowledge of blue printing reading in both US and Metric standards
- A working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
- A working knowledge of medical manufacturing quality systems.
- Working knowledge of Statistical Methods for manufacturing.
- Working Knowledge of PC-DMIS software
- Ability to utilize CAD software files for devising CMM programs
Education and/or Experience:
- 5 Years in Quality Engineering in manufacturing and/or quality assurance.
- Proficient in applicable ISO 9001, ISO 13485 Standards
- Experience using Minitab and MS Excel
- Experience in using Solidworks
- Proficient in metrology and calibration standards.
- Certified QE a plus.
- Experience in 3D part scanning and point cloud data assimilation a plus
