Job description

As a Systems Engineer on our team, you will directly support national defense missions by leading the engineering, deployment, and continuous improvement of our SolarWinds network monitoring infrastructure. You will design and evolve enterprise‑scale monitoring solutions, collaborate with architects and engineers across adjacent technologies, and support modernization initiatives in cloud, automation, and datacenter operations. This role includes hands‑on engineering, documentation, training delivery, and subject‑matter expertise across SolarWinds Orion systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Architect, design, implement, configure, and maintain SolarWinds Orion Platform components, including: NPM, SAM, NCM, SRM, IPAM, WPM, NTA, and VMAN.
  • Engineer scalable monitoring solutions for mid‑ to enterprise‑scale networks and hybrid datacenter environments.
  • Integrate SolarWinds with Splunk, VMware, Windows Server, Linux, and other ecosystem technologies.
  • Troubleshoot performance, configuration, and monitoring issues across the enterprise.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, solution guidelines, and SOPs.
  • Provide training and hands‑on knowledge transfer to operations teams.
  • Serve as the SolarWinds SME for monitoring strategy, capability development, and platform lifecycle optimization.
  • Collaborate on‑site with government stakeholders at least two days per week (with potential for expanded on‑site support based on client requirements).
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years designing and implementing technologies supporting monitoring and automation of enterprise datacenters.
  • 5+ years managing a Windows Server–based IT infrastructure.
  • 3+ years hands‑on experience engineering, designing, implementing, and maintaining SolarWinds Orion Platform products.
  • 3+ years managing IT infrastructure solutions mid‑ to enterprise‑scale networks.
  • 2+ years experience in an operations role supporting infrastructure, monitoring, or datacenter systems.
  • Experience architecting, designing, securing, installing, troubleshooting, and documenting integrated server or network solutions.
  • Active Secretlevel security clearance (or higher).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • IAT Level II certification:  Requires both an IA Certification (e.g., Security+ CE, or higher) *AND* an Operating Environment (OE) Certification (e.g., Windows OS certification, CCNA, SolarWinds, etc.) for CSWF compliance.
  • Ability to support onsite delivery and collaborate with government stakeholders minimum 2 day per week, with potential expansion as directed by the client.
  • Ability to perform OCONUS Travel (typically 1-3 weeks trip duration, up to approx. 3 times a year, planned 3+months in advance)
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with enterprise server, storage, networking, and software platforms, or equivalent specialization on a major technology stack.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with Python and PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Experience with network engineering or enterprise network operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • CASP or CISSP certification.

  • Health savings account.
  • Vacation
  • Monthly stipend for residing in a HUBZone location (https://maps.certify.sba.gov/hubzone/map).
We thrive in a welcoming culture within an utterly flat organization. How flat? Nobody has ever or will ever make a living with Boarhog watching other associates do work. There are no company Presidents, Vice Presidents, or supervisors doing desk checks. The word "employee" is not spoken and appears nowhere in company documents, because every one of is is an associate. We demonstrate a vested interest in our associates' personal and professional goals and aspirations, taking pride in the resulting exceedingly low associate turnover rate (we're not a staffing company body shop... there are no recruiters paid to jam warm bodies in seats), so we thrive at the top of the learning curve. Boarhog's Managing Member and co-founder served 21 years on active duty as a U.S. Navy SWO and is a member of the Navy's Acquisition Professional Community with many decades of public sector acquisition experience. He actively engages in day-to-day operations, client relationships, and associate job satisfaction.
