Job Summary The Transportation Engineer plays a key role in shaping the city's mobility network by managing the planning, design, and construction of roadway, pedestrian, bike, and traffic improvement projects. This position leads capital improvement initiatives, oversees the ADA transition plan, reviews private development proposals, and provides technical guidance across city departments. The role also conducts traffic engineering analyses to enhance safety and optimize traffic flow while serving as a responsive resource for residents with infrastructure or transportation concerns.

It's a dynamic opportunity for an engineer who thrives on problem-solving, project leadership, and strengthening community mobility. Starting Salary Range: The starting salary is between the minimum and midpoint of the range ($66,955.20 annually - $82,014.40 annually). Candidates will start at the minimum of the range unless their skills, experience, education or other factors exceed the qualifications for the position

Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. A typical way to qualify is a Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field and two (2) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a related engineering role that would demonstrate effectiveness in leading engineering projects and providing technical expertise.

Licensure or Certification Requirements Professional Engineer Certification (and ability to utilize in Ohio) Current and valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract to meet criteria for insurability established by the City of Gahanna Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge Of: Civil engineering principles, practices, concepts, procedures, and methods General construction practices, methods and procedures Municipal government structure and processes Managerial principles, concepts, practices, and procedures All applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job Budget development policies and procedures Department organization, standard operating guidelines and policies, rules, and regulations Skill in: Synchro and SimTraffic AutoCAD, GIS, and computer aided design software Using basic software such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint Communicating orally and in writing with internal staff, citizens, and other departmental staff in order to give and receive information in a courteous manner Planning, organizing, assigning, delegating, directing, reviewing and evaluating the work of consultants Operating and maintaining all assigned equipment required to perform the essential functions of the job Ability to: (Mental and Physical Abilities) Apply an extensive variety of complex technical engineering principles to field conditions Review and analyze construction plans to determine compliance with applicable specifications, regulations, codes and ordinances Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, city officials, other government agencies, and the general public While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to stand; sit; speak and hear; use color, texture, sound, shape and odor perception; push, pull and/or lift up to 50 pounds Why Gahanna.
