Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: The Union Payroll Clerk will support our craft payroll department with the weekly processing of payroll for multiple entities with employees working in multiple states.  This role would be involved in the full cycle of the payroll process, including employee onboarding and set-up. This position works closely with our craft payroll manager and other members of the payroll team to ensure the accurate and timely processing of this important business function.

Salary: 55k-62k depending on experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Maintain, set up and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, updates and deductions.

  • Coordinate and complete all E-Verify requirements on a timely basis.

  • Enter employee information in JD Edwards accurately and timely.

  • Support payroll time entry activities that arise from project site needs.

  • Coordinate and complete various employment verifications on a timely basis.

  • Support set up and compliance with payroll garnishments. 

  • Assist in the weekly processing of payroll for multiple entities working in multiple states.

  • Maintain confidential personnel and payroll records.

  • Support other departmental projects and data requests as needed.

  • Provide outstanding service through timely and effective follow-ups and communications with both internal and external customers.

  • Assist with year-end payroll activities, including tax forms and audits.

  • File and organize payroll related documents and records.

POSITION RELATED SKILLS: 

  • Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail required 

  • Must be able to work independently, make decisions, and follow through on all assignments 

  • Must use creativity, independent judgment, and organizational and problem-solving skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results 

  • Must be able to plan and organize work 

  • Must possess strong organizational and computer use skills and have a high level of competency to read/write/speak English, interpret construction related documentation and communicate with coworkers 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Associates degree in accounting, formal payroll certificate or relevant payroll training preferred. 

  • 2-3 years of relevant work experience working in a payroll department with similar responsibilities preferred.

  • Previous Union payroll compliance experience preferred but not required. 

  • Previous construction industry experience preferred.

  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams).

  • Experience working with JD Edwards to process payroll is preferred  

  • Must be able to apply complex compensation, benefit, and record keeping criteria in processing of payroll. 

  • Must be able to analyze and interpret data for accuracy.

  • Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously is required.

  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be interested in working in a large corporate environment, willing to learn and take direction, and willing to take on added responsibilities as needed.
