Job Description Summary
The purpose of this job is to provide professional engineering design, maintenance, and technical support. Ensures proper function, adequate capacity, and regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description
  • Prepares, modifies, reviews, and/or submits engineering and construction designs, plans, reports, estimates, and specifications.

  • Collects and maintains data for engineering projects and departments. Analyzes and validates data.

  • Manages capital improvement projects from identification, prioritization, and design through construction and final acceptance.

  • Calculates and prepares cost estimates for construction projects, technical specifications, and written reports.

  • Conducts technical reviews on engineering and construction proposals, reports, plans, and calculations

  • Ensures plans, specifications, estimates, and reports comply with local, state, and federal requirements and regulations.

  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

  • Ensures projects follow the public process and comply with City ordinances.

  • Participates in public meetings, concept reviews, and communicates with customers.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This position requires a Professional Engineer license. If the candidate does not have a P.E., consideration may be given to hiring the candidate as an Engineering Specialist ($31.33 to $38.55/hour)
This position is open until filled, but has a preferred application deadline of Friday, May 15, 2026.
**This Engineer position is specifically street pavement preservation-related. The person in this position will be intricately involved with the planning and execution of many aspects of the Pavement Management Program for the City and will work closely with Street Operations personnel to coordinate work. Participates in the review of construction and development plans and subdivision plats to ensure compliance with regulations and standards for street construction. Prepares and maintains a variety of engineering documents, which may include plans, specifications, contracts, maps, standards, and policies. Maintains and updates street-related inventory. Develops geographic information systems. Draft resolutions, ordinances, and memos for City Council consideration. Answers inquiries and concerns from the public regarding pavement condition, street deterioration, project planning, and other maintenance-related issues. Conducts research, evaluates, and makes recommendations regarding proposed and existing facilities and services; conducts system planning studies. Assists with weather emergencies, including winter weather response. Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
