Peak Utility Infrastructure is an integrated engineering and construction company that serves the Electric, Natural Gas, and Telecommunications industries. We provide a full suite of engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance services, including repair, replacement, maintenance, and installation of natural gas, telecommunications, and electric infrastructure through our operating subsidiaries: SiteWise, Kelly Cable, Riley Brothers, 5 Star Electric, Superior Hydrovac and Superior Pipeline Services.
Position Title: Gas Meter Technician I

Compensation: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour DOE
Essential Functions:

Gas Meter Technician I works under the direction of Meter Foremen, Meter Supervisors and performs physical activities in support of completing meter exchanges, meter support for construction crews, meter move outs and associated piping, meter testing and other related gas meter work. Personnel with little/no experience (entry level). Job roles include but are not limited to: SiteWise, LLC. Level 1 Gas Meter Technician includes training up to 90 days. Entry level Gas Meter Technician - Meter Exchange (Excluding RB/RL's), Secondary on MMO/Relocates/Multi Meter Work, Single Meter New Installs (250-425's).
  • Installs gas meters, regulators, piping and pipe fitting work with black iron pipe.
  • Performs change-out of existing gas utility meters and installs upgraded gas utility meters.
  • Performs gas leak repair including above ground meter sets.
  • Keeps legible hand-written accurate records including daily work logs and installation records.
  • Cleans and prepares meter worksites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Monitors and maintains tools and equipment for proper use, storage, and upkeep.
  • Completes all work in an organized, timely manner, within standard operating procedure.
  • Uses relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards and communicates abnormal working conditions to appropriate parties.
  • Assists crew leaders in construction/ reconstruction and maintenance work providing meter support.
  • Works safely around customer houses and private property, backhoes, excavators, and directional drills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Provide exceptional customer service while on the jobsite.
  • Basic math skills required when measuring and performing take offs for miscellaneous jobs.
  • Detailed procedures. Responds to situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Knowledge of standardized work routines and the ability to follow and give oral/written instructions involving a number of steps.
  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft software applications.
  • Moderate to strenuous effort required.
  • This position requires extended intervals of standing, walking, climbing, bending, crouching, working at heights from ladders, scaffolds, platforms and repetitive motions of the hand/wrist and elbow/shoulder.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb and balance and talk and hear.
  • Workers must also have the ability to work in confined, noisy, hot, and cold spaces and work with hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Experience and Education:
  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • 2+ years of Residential Plumbing, pipe fitting & repair experience (diagnosing & troubleshooting a normal plumbing system).
  • Previous experience working with underground utilities is preferred.

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment.
  • Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
