Metallurgy Technician - $21/hr
Location: Milwaukie, OR 97222
Pay: $21.00/hour
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday
Metallurgical sample prep will include cutting, grinding, mounting and polishing using various saws and other equipment. Metallurgical testing & evaluation includes microhardness, microstructural, macro-etching, coating/plating examinations, grain size, case depth and other tests as directed
Responsibilities
  • Prepare metal samples through cutting, grinding, mounting, and polishing.
  • Operate saws and other mechanical and laboratory equipment.
  • Perform and assist with metallurgical testing and evaluation.
  • Conduct microhardness testing.
  • Perform microstructural and macro-etching analysis.
  • Examine metal coatings and plating.
  • Assist with grain size and case depth testing.
  • Inspect and evaluate prepared metal samples for quality and consistency.
  • Accurately document testing results and follow established procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace.
  • Follow established testing processes and safety protocols.
  • Assist with additional testing and laboratory duties as needed.

Experience & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience working in a mechanical field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with machining, manufacturing, automotive, mechanical assembly, fabrication, metalworking, maintenance, or similar hands-on work is highly desirable.
  • Associate degree or coursework in metallurgy, mechanics, engineering, or a related science is a plus, but not required.
  • Previous laboratory experience is helpful but not required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Comfortable operating saws, tools, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures.
  • Ability to accurately document work and testing results.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Motivated to learn specialized metal testing processes.

Work Schedule
  • Monday: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Tuesday: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Wednesday: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Thursday: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Friday: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday: Off

Overtime may be available or required depending on workload.
