Job description

Hiring Opportunity: Youngstown Ohio
Our client is looking to hire a 1st shift Metallurgical Lab Technician for their facility in Youngstown Ohio! Our client is a leader in producing high-density, low-cost steel counterweights, and weldments.
The Metallurgical Lab Technician would be responsible for performing routine technical tasks, including operating and maintaining equipment, as well as conducting analysis and experimental procedures.
Qualified candidates would need experience with various handheld devices, blueprint reading, quality, and previous manufacturing experience.
Job Responsibilities:
- Operate cutting torches
- Transcribe sample information to chart (cobble number and dimensions)
- Mark cobble with corresponding sample number (1,2,3 etc.)
- Torch cut sample piece from cobble
- Mark sample piece with sample number (1,2,3 etc.)
- Prepare samples to a clean surface using a stationary sander
- Mark cobble as needed with paint
- Understanding of required PPE (how to select and why it is required)
- Exhibit proper donning of PPE daily
- Report safety hazards to supervision/mgt.
- Attend monthly all shop meetings
Job Requirements:
- Computer skills proficient in Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Ability to operate a torch
- Knowledge of reading a tape, micrometers.
- Analytical mindset
- Self - Motivated
- Ability to transcribe numbers and dimensions
- Willing to work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to effectively communicate
- Ability to learn and/or use spectrometer
- Experience working with steel and/or within a manufacturing environment
- 2 years lab experience preferred
- Ability to lift 70 lbs
