BASIC FUNCTION:
The Product Metallurgist I and II are responsible for assisting in determining and eliminating the root cause of process and product non-conformances, determining process route, practice design and supporting operations, sales, and customer with metallurgical guidance for improvement and resolution.

DIMENSIONS: Process and Product Metallurgy / Quality Assurance

NATURE & SCOPE:
This job is accountable for identifying and solving metallurgical problems. The incumbent will assist in determining and eliminating the root cause of non-conformance that are found at the division and/or with the customer.This job reports to the Finishing Superintendent at Huntington, Indiana.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

1. Responsible for identifying and solving metallurgical problems.
2. Perform as a customer technical liaison.
3. Dispositions product placed on hold for quality issues or concerns.

4. Obtain all metallurgical, customer and industry specifications.
5. Document customer requirements and process routing of quotes in the plant-wide operating systems.
6. Coordinate & control flow of sales quotes in a timely manner.
7. Oversee trial orders with production departments.
8. Initiate Customer Claims when applicable.
9. Determine process routing for standard products.
10. Determine customer PPAP requirements.
11. Assist in resolving customer claims as required to support supply chain.
12. Develop new product applications with GSN Technical Services.
13. APQP/PPAP/FMEA and CP inputs and reviews.
14. Support the Quality system in audits and customer specific requirements.
15. Assist in determining and eliminating the root cause of nonconformance's that are found at the division and/or with the customer.
16. Responsible for following department rules for safety, discipline, and work procedures within corporate management and quality guidelines.
17. Responsible for following the Cardinal Safety Rules.
18. Responsible for observing completing all required annual safety and environmental training on a monthly basis.
19. Responsible for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in cleanup of material spills if required in the testing lab or on the production floor.
20. Employee is expected to know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.
21. Develop working knowledge and process capabilities of other GSN production facilities. Develop working relationships with key technical and operating personnel in GSN.
22. Be a self-starter and exhibit high motivation to manage work and be able to prioritize responsibilities as required. Enjoy working in a team setting collaborating with other to achieve positive results.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A four-year college degree, preferably in a Metallurgical Engineering or Steelmaking. 

Product Metallurgist I:1-3 years experience
Product Metallurgist II: 5+ years experience

The incumbent should also have knowledge of grade specifications, customer, and industry specifications. This incumbent should possess basic computer literacy.
