Job Summary:


The Saw Operator will read blueprints, make adjustments, set stops or guides, and look for defects in parts while operating a metal saw, poly saw, or shear.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Starts, stops, and sets up machines in a safe manner.
  • Operates the machine, keeping an eye out for any defects or issues.
  • Uses measurement tools to ensure accuracy.
  • Completes quality checks to verify condition of material.
  • Verifies type of material before cutting.
  • Changes blades, cleans sensors, replenishes coolant, and calibrates machines.
  • Operates forklift and crane.
  • Helps pack and transport finished pieces as needed.
  • Accurately completes paperwork.
  • Maintains 6S (sort, set, shine, standardize, sustain, safety) standards in all work stations.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Basic math skills (ex. addition, subtraction, multiplication, converting fractions to decimals, converting standard measurements to metric system, etc.).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Mechanical inclination.

Abilities:

  • Read a tape measure and other measurement tools.
  • Function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Work well with others on a team.
  • Follow instructions and processes.
  • Solve problems quickly and efficiently.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Forklift certification.
  • Experience operating a saw (1-3 years).

Physical Requirements:

  • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: noise, dust, dirt, and mobile equipment.
  • Routine, repetitive lifting up to 35 lbs., occasional, heavy lifting, and pushing / pulling 10 lbs. regularly, 1 to 10 hours per day.
  • Any combination of standing, bending, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, feeling, and walking 8 to 10 hours per day.
  • Ability to work up to 8-10 hour shifts and overtime as required by the work.
  • Use of all limbs, dexterous and steady use of hands and arms for long periods of time.
  • Simultaneous mental and muscular coordination, visual and audio awareness of surrounding area.

Note: This position may require working with fiberglass, which can be itchy to some.
