Job Description: 
As a Library Technician in this role, you may be required to: 
  • Assisting the librarian in organizing and managing library resources
  • Checking books and other materials in and out for patrons
  • Organizing and re-shelving returned materials
  • Maintaining and updating library records, including records of borrowed and returned materials
  • Assisting patrons in locating and using library resources
  • Helping to maintain library equipment and technology, including computers, printers, and copiers
  • Answering questions and providing information about library policies and services
  • Helping to develop and implement library programs and events
  • Processing requests for library materials and using OCLC WorldShare to requests items that are not part of the collection
  • Performing routine clerical tasks, such as data entry and filing

Basic Qualifications: 
  • U.S. Citizenship (required for access to federal facilities and systems)
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in Library Science, Information Management, or related field preferred
  • At least 1-2 years of experience working in a library, records management, or information services environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn specialized library databases or catalog systems
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to provide customer service and support to researchers, scientists, and staff
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a professional environment
  • Must be able to pass a background check and obtain/maintain clearance requirements as needed by AFRL
  • Must be able to push/drag/lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications: 
  • 1+ years' interpreting bibliographic data elements and searching and updating bibliographic holdings, and item records in online environments
  • 1+ years of experience preparing library materials for reformatting, scanning library materials, processing images, or performing QA/QC on images and metadata
  • 1+ years' shelving, shifting, inventory, and rehousing fragile materials
  • 1+ years' using a Library Services Platform to update holdings and item records
  • 1+ years' handling rare and unique library materials, including archival and manuscript collections
  • 1+ years' locating, retrieving, and shelving library materials in library collections by call number or another organization scheme
  • Experience as a civilian contractor for a Government Facility
