Job description
The Met presents over 5,000 years of art from around the world for everyone to experience and enjoy. The Museum lives in two iconic sites in New York City-The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters. Millions of people also take part in The Met experience online.
Since its founding in 1870, The Met has always aspired to be more than a treasury of rare and beautiful objects. We are committed to fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment with a staff as diverse as the audiences we engage. Our staff members are art lovers who are passionate about working toward a common goal: creating the most dynamic and inspiring art museum in the world.
At The Met, every staff member - from security officers to researchers to scientists and beyond - lives by our core values of respect, inclusivity, collaboration, excellence, and integrity.
Respect: Engage one another with collegiality, empathy, and kindness, always.
Inclusivity: Ensure that all are and feel welcome and valued.
Collaboration: Reach across boundaries to exchange ideas and work together toward our shared mission.
Excellence: Lead the cultural world in quality and expertise-and inspire curiosity and creativity.
Integrity: Hold ourselves to the highest moral standards, admit when we fall short, and then evolve.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
As the Lead Technical Analyst, Digital Asset Management, you will have primary responsibility for the Museum's Digital Asset Management system (DAMs) and related workflows. You will facilitate the cataloging, discovery, dissemination, and long-term preservation of approximately 2 million digital assets including images of artwork, historic images of the Museum and its exhibitions, video and audio material related to the museum's daily activities and exhibitions, and other asset formats such as 3D and 360-degree video. You will be an active participant in the analysis, transfer, tracking and organization of digital collections used by internal staff and external constituents.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Maintain the Museum's Digital Asset Management system, applying a strong understanding of content management, client server environments, database systems, web services, and security roles, and applying knowledge of a variety of image, audio and video formats.
- Monitor data migration and synchronization tasks between various asset and data repositories.
- Coordinate and participate in DAMs upgrades in collaboration with the Museum's IT function.
- Troubleshoot the DAMs and extend integrations and automations in response to user requirements and ongoing product development.
- Gather, review, analyze, and evaluate system and user needs. Assist in the development and deployment of solutions based on user requirements.
- Oversee assigned local collections and other special projects and their workflows for processing within the DAMs. Streamline acquisitions, deployments and conversions of multimedia content.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and other specialists to review and configure DAMs metadata and workflow processes. Contribute to system integrations and enhancements, including task automation, reporting, and other digitization procedures.
- Provide direct support and training to general and power users.
- Design, develop, and maintain reports for the Museum's DAMs, such as production workflows, digital rights management, and licensing activities.
- Act as main technical contact for the IT department and DAMs vendor(s).
- Create and maintain up-to-date technical documentation for the DAMs and adjacent systems and workflows.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in computer science, library science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of digital asset or content management experience required. Experience with the NetX platform is considered a plus.
- Technical skills:

- Understanding of REST and web service APIs for accessing DAMs and external data sources.
- Knowledge of digitization processes for content, including digital image capture and scanning, image, audio and video formats and codecs, file conversion and archiving, data mining and harvesting, and metadata taxonomies.
- Experience and/or interest in digital preservation and digital preservation workflows.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with staff at all levels across the institution and with outside organizations and vendors.
- Other skills not required but considered a plus:
- Experience with Windows Server, Jira, Elastic, and enterprise Java applications.
- Knowledge of IIIF APIs.
- Experience with collections information systems, especially TMS by Gallery Systems.
