Our data centers are the backbone of the infrastructure that powers Meta's global platforms, and this role is central to keeping those systems running at peak reliability. As a Lead Building Engineer, you will provide senior-level technical leadership across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems within a critical facility environment, driving operational excellence, mentoring other engineers, and ensuring continuous uptime across mission-critical infrastructure.
Lead Building Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for data center facility operations, providing guidance and oversight on complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and controls systems maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Lead the development, review, and continuous improvement of standard operating procedures, emergency operating procedures, and preventive maintenance programs for critical facility systems
  • Oversee and coordinate planned and unplanned maintenance activities, ensuring all work is executed safely and in compliance with site processes, change management protocols, and uptime requirements
  • Mentor other engineers and technicians on technical best practices, equipment operation, and safety standards within the critical facility environment
  • Utilize building management systems and monitoring platforms to analyze system performance, identify anomalies, and drive proactive resolution of potential faults before they impact operations
  • Lead root cause analysis investigations following equipment failures or operational incidents, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Collaborate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to plan and execute capital projects, equipment upgrades, and system commissioning activities
  • Manage work order workflows in the enterprise asset management system, ensuring accurate documentation of maintenance activities, parts usage, and equipment history
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to the facility operations and maintenance program, including energy efficiency initiatives and infrastructure reliability enhancements
  • Respond to and lead the resolution of critical facility emergencies, coordinating resources and communications across operations, engineering, and management teams

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of experience in critical facility operations, data center engineering, or a related technical field encompassing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or controls systems
  • Experience leading or coordinating maintenance activities and technical teams within a mission-critical or 24x7 operational environment
  • Experience troubleshooting and operating complex building systems including power distribution, cooling infrastructure, and building management or monitoring systems
  • Experience developing or improving standard operating procedures, preventive maintenance programs, or change management processes in a critical environment
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions following equipment failures or operational incidents

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience in a data center or other Critical Environment (pharma, clean room, medical, power production, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Associates Degree, Trade Certification or state licensure in Electrical or Mechanical (HVAC)
