What are some common challenges faced by accountants working in a large tech company like Meta, and how can new hires prepare for them?

Accountants at large tech companies like Meta often manage high transaction volumes, complex revenue streams, and rapidly evolving business models. Keeping up-to-date with regulatory changes and complying with global accounting standards can be demanding. New hires can prepare by developing strong analytical skills, staying current with industry regulations, and becoming proficient in advanced accounting software. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, such as finance, legal, and product, is frequent, so effective communication and adaptability are crucial for success.

What is meta accounting?

Meta accounting refers to the use of advanced data analysis, automation, and technology-driven methods to improve accounting processes and financial reporting. It often involves integrating artificial intelligence, blockchain, and other digital tools to enhance accuracy, transparency, and efficiency in accounting tasks. Meta accounting is becoming increasingly important as businesses seek to leverage big data and digital transformation in their financial operations.

Job description

First, what we're actually doing

Suger helps revenue teams sell more effectively by simplifying the workflows required to buy and sell through cloud marketplaces. We make it easier for our customers to transact, manage, and grow deals across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Alibaba, Oracle and Snowflake, creating a smoother buying experience for their customers. We've grown quickly by becoming the end-to-end orchestration system for the fastest growing sales channel (B2B Cloud Marketplaces) leveraging AI and integrations with core systems. Today, we work with over 300 B2B customers, ranging from large enterprises like Snowflake and Intel to fast-growing startups like Glean and Vanta.

Why this role exists

We are growing fast, and the financial needs are becoming more operationally complex across both the US and Canada. We're looking for our first in-house accountant - someone who can bring structure, ownership, and scalability to our accounting processes while helping leadership maintain strong financial visibility as the company grows.

This role exists because we need a dedicated owner for day-to-day accounting operations - someone who can keep the fundamentals running smoothly while also helping us build better systems, processes, and financial discipline for the next stage of growth.

You'll be joining at a stage where your work will directly shape how the finance function evolves over time.

What You'll Own
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, reconciliations, expense management, and month-end close
  • Own invoicing, collections, vendor payments, and cash tracking
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate financial records
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Coordinate payroll-related accounting and employee reimbursements
  • Partner with external accountants on taxes, audits, and compliance filings
  • Improve accounting workflows, internal controls, and operational processes
  • Assist with procurement, software/vendor tracking, and operational finance projects
  • Help build scalable finance processes as the company grows
Who We're Looking For
  • 4+ years of accounting experience in a SaaS company
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end close
  • Comfortable handling AP/AR, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting
  • Ability to work independently and operate in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Experience with accounting and finance systems such as QuickBooks Online (QBO), Stripe, Ramp, Salesforce, and similar business platforms
  • Experience supporting US and/or Canadian entities is a plus
  • CPA designation (or in progress) is a plus
  • Startup or SaaS experience is preferred
Why Join Us
  • The salary range: $110K - $150K/year,  depending on experience, market location, and overall fit for the role.
  • Competitive salary, comprehensive health insurance, monthly office stipends, meaningful equity plan, benefits, etc.
  • Our mission is to bring a consumer experience to B2B sales.
  • We are a team of ~70 people with hubs in SF and Vancouver.
  • Top-notch team - You'll work with an awesome bought-in team, who have both built large-scale enterprise SaaS products at top companies (e.g. Google, Meta, Salesforce, Confluent), and high-growth startups (e.g. Workstream, Motive, Square).
  • Well-funded / long runway
  • We are a fast-moving flat org and avoid hierarchical structures.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. If you would like more information about how your data is processed, please contact us.
