Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Regulated Messaging Engineer based in Belgium.

This role is focused on engineering and supporting the infrastructure responsible for capturing, retaining, and archiving written electronic communications in a highly regulated environment. You will maintain and enhance messaging transport services while ensuring reliability, scalability, and compliance. The position combines Windows infrastructure, SMTP, Python automation, databases, networking, and enterprise archiving technologies. You will also contribute to complex integrations across collaboration and messaging platforms and support large-scale migrations. Working across engineering, operations, product teams, and senior stakeholders, you will help resolve complex technical challenges and strengthen operational resilience. This is an opportunity to contribute to critical compliance infrastructure where security, accuracy, and reliability are essential.

Accountabilities
  • Monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance written electronic communications transport services using SMTP.
  • Manage and optimize Windows Server and IIS infrastructure supporting regulated messaging workflows.
  • Develop Python-based automation, integrations, and operational tools to address technology gaps and improve efficiency.
  • Design, deploy, and oversee messaging retention and communications archiving solutions that meet global compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Configure, administer, and test Proofpoint Enterprise Archive solutions, including retention and archiving capabilities.
  • Implement and maintain electronic communications compliance and retention governance frameworks for messaging and email platforms.
  • Design and manage integration architecture across compliance and messaging technologies, including Microsoft Teams, Symphony, Bloomberg, and other relevant platforms.
  • Coordinate technical activities across product engineering, operations, and other key stakeholders to ensure effective delivery and issue resolution.
  • Plan infrastructure capacity, scalability, availability, and operational resilience to support evolving business requirements.
  • Lead or contribute to complex technology migrations while maintaining change management, security, and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical and operational incidents, driving issues through to resolution.
  • Communicate project status, technical risks, dependencies, and key milestones clearly to stakeholders and senior leadership.
Requirements
  • Strong engineering and architecture experience with Windows-based SMTP forwarding services, email retention, and electronic communications archiving.
  • Hands-on experience with Windows IIS SMTP forwarding services, including configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Practical experience with email retention, archiving, or electronic communications vaulting platforms.
  • Experience administering or supporting Proofpoint Enterprise Archive specifically; experience with other Proofpoint products such as Email DLP, Encryption, Email Fraud Defense, or Enterprise DLP does not substitute for this requirement.
  • Strong Python skills for automation, integrations, scripting, and operational improvements.
  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and relational databases.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration and enterprise infrastructure.
  • Understanding of firewall configuration, network fundamentals, SMTP connectivity, and secure communications flows.
  • Experience designing or supporting integrations between messaging, collaboration, and compliance platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, product, and business stakeholder groups.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex technical initiatives while maintaining a strong focus on security, compliance, reliability, and operational continuity.
Benefits
  • Opportunity to work on critical messaging, retention, and compliance infrastructure in a highly regulated environment.
  • Exposure to enterprise technologies spanning Windows Server, IIS, SMTP, Python, SQL, networking, and Proofpoint Enterprise Archive.
  • Opportunity to contribute to complex integrations, migrations, automation initiatives, and infrastructure modernization.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with engineering, operations, product teams, and senior stakeholders.
  • Opportunity to develop expertise in electronic communications compliance, retention governance, and regulated technology environments.
  • Role offering significant technical ownership, problem-solving responsibility, and exposure to complex enterprise systems.
