Job description

Genesis10 is currently seeking a Senior M365 Messaging Engineer - Hybrid for a contract to hire opportunity with a Major Insurance Company located in Minnetonka, MN. This is a 6+ month opportunity.
Pay Range: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour based on experience

Job Overview:
This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing engineering of enterprise messaging services across a hybrid Microsoft Exchange environment, including Exchange Online and on-premises Exchange. The position focuses on delivering a resilient, secure, and scalable messaging platform, with an emphasis on engineering ownership of mail flow architecture, hybrid coexistence, mailbox lifecycle management, and platform optimization. This role requires close collaboration with security, compliance, and infrastructure teams to ensure messaging services align with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and maintain a hybrid Exchange architecture (Exchange Online and on-premises), ensuring seamless coexistence and interoperability
  • Engineer and optimize mail flow infrastructure, including connectors, transport rules, routing, and third-party integrations
  • Lead and support mailbox migration strategies (hybrid, cross-tenant, staged, and cutover), ensuring minimal disruption and high data integrity
  • Automate administrative and operational tasks using PowerShell and scripting, improving efficiency and reducing manual intervention
  • Serve as a Tier 3/engineering escalation point for complex messaging issues, performing advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
  • Monitor and enhance service availability, performance, and reliability, implementing proactive solutions to prevent recurring issues
  • Design and enforce security and compliance controls (eDiscovery, retention, DLP, transport security, anti-spoofing, etc.) within the messaging environment
  • Integrate and manage email security and delivery platforms such as Mimecast, SendGrid, and Red Sift
  • Collaborate with identity, security, and infrastructure teams to support hybrid identity (Entra ID / Azure AD) and authentication models impacting Exchange
  • Evaluate new Microsoft 365 messaging features and implement improvements that enhance end-user productivity and platform stability

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience and certifications (e.g., Microsoft 365, Exchange, Azure)
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Exchange (Online and/or on premises)
  • Exposure to hybrid Exchange environments and enterprise level messaging systems preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Exchange Online and on-prem Exchange administration and architecture
  • Experience with Hybrid Configuration Wizard (HCW) and hybrid coexistence scenarios
  • Advanced understanding of mail flow (connectors, transport rules, routing, message hygiene)
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation for Exchange and M365
  • Experience with mailbox migrations (hybrid, cross-tenant, staged, and cutover)
  • Knowledge of SMTP, DNS, and email authentication protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
  • Familiarity with Exchange Admin Center (EAC) and Microsoft 365 admin portals
  • Experience integrating third-party mail hygiene and delivery solutions (Mimecast, SendGrid, Red Sift)
  • Understanding of identity and authentication (Entra ID / Azure AD, AD Connect, modern authentication)
  • Exposure to security and compliance features within Microsoft 365 (retention, eDiscovery, DLP)
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a focus on engineering solutions over temporary fixes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives in a hybrid enterprise environment
