Job description

OVERVIEW
The EMS Coordinator directs emergency medical services program by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Coordinates and ensures compliance for all aspects of the Mercy Prehospital and Emergency Medical Services Center between the Mercy EMS system, Fire/EMS agencies, and the State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
Schedule: 40 hours/week - Monday-Friday
Shift: Days
Location: MercyCare Building - Janesville, WI
Pay Range: $58,797.66 - $91,136.38 annually
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serves as the liaison between the Mercy Prehospital and Emergency Services Centers in Walworth, Janesville, and EMS service directors in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Serves as the liaison between EMS agencies and Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center departments in Janesville and Mercy Walworth Hospital.
  • Supervises the day to day operations of the EMS Training Centers in Walworth and Janesville.
  • Works with the EMS Director and EMS Manager to develop and implement strategic plans and improvement processes for the EMS Training Centers in Walworth and Janesville.
  • Coordinates regular educational activities and instructor assignments for regional EMS providers that are licensed and credentialed under Mercy's Medical Direction in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Schedules and assists with Mercy Prehospital and Emergency Services Center's affiliation processes for all new EMS providers coming into Mercy EMS system.
  • Works with Mercy Prehospital and emergency Services Center Medical Directors to develop continuing education curriculum that meets the State of Wisconsin EMS refresher guidelines.
  • Develops, implements, and supervises primary education courses in accordance with established curriculum. Courses included but not limited to EMR, EMT-Basic, and Advanced EMT.
  • Provides educational instruction, as needed, to EMS service providers on a monthly basis.
  • Provides educational instruction in at least one and/or multiple AHA disciplines to Mercyhealth medical staff and regional EMS providers.
  • Assists with the Mercy Prehospital and Emergency Services Center Simulation program scheduling and operation.
  • Ensures appropriate educational and skills validation records are maintained for licensed and credentialed EMS providers under Mercy's medical control.
  • Participates in the QA/QI process with EMS agencies under Mercy's medical control.
  • Cooperates with schools and community organizations to encourage public interest in and knowledge of EMS programs, careers and assists groups in development or presentations.
  • Completes other duties assigned by the EMS Director and/or the EMS Manager.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of an associate's degree from a recognized college or university with fields of study in Emergency Medical Services, Fire Service, or Emergency Management fields of study or equivalent nursing degree, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years as an active EMS provider or experience as an emergency department RN.
  • Two year's progressive experience in a supervisory role.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
  • Current State of Wisconsin EMT-Paramedic licensure. National Registry certification is preferred or current licensed nurse.
  • Current AHA ACLS certification - AHA ACLS Instructor preferred or must be obtained within 6 months.
  • Current AHA BLS certification - AHA BLS instructor preferred or must be obtained within 6 months.
  • Ability to obtain AHA PALS certification within 6 months of hire - AHA PALS instructor preferred
  • State of Wisconsin EMS Instructor 2 or Wisconsin Emergency Services Instructor certification.
  • Valid Driver's license in state of residence.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Passing the Driver's License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).
  • Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.
  • Must be able to follow written/oral instructions.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Possess familiarity with the State of Wisconsin state statutes and administrative rule governing EMS providers.
  • Possess knowledge of effective instructional techniques and methodologies related to adult learning.
  • Be able to work independently and take appropriate initiative to advance the Mercy Prehospital and Emergency Services Centers education initiatives.
  • Possess knowledge of governmental and community organizations at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of EMS providers, personnel, and general public.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate noise levels. Occupational Exposure: Category C - No partners in the specified job classification have occupational exposure.

SUPERVISES
Directly supervises EMS Instructors and administrative assistants at the Walworth and Janesville EMS Training Centers. Supervisory responsibilities are conducted in accordance with directives of management, the organization's policies, and applicable laws
PAY RANGE:
$55,746.12 - $89,193.72
