Retail Security Officer

Schedule:

Alternating Schedule (2–3 Days per Week)

8:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Paid OT - Unpaid Meal Breaks 

The Security Officer provides a visible, professional, and courteous security presence within a busy retail environment. The primary objectives are to deter theft and disruptive behavior through professional conduct and customer engagement, maintain a safe environment for employees and patrons, promptly report all incidents, irregularities, and shoplifting.  

Key Responsibilities 

Customer Service & Deterrence 

  • Greet and engage customers upon entry, maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Serve as a visual deterrent by maintaining an active, visible presence at the store entrance and throughout designated patrol areas.
  • Provide assistance to store staff or patrons as needed while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Deter, Document, and address shoplifters in a positive customer centric approach. Positive approaches include: "Can I show you to the register", "Can I help you carry these items to the register", "Can you please place those items in the cart and not in your pockets", "Can I help you find something in the store" etc.
  • Represent the company’s brand values through exceptional customer-service interactions.

Patrol & Monitoring 

  • Conduct regular patrols of interior and exterior focus areas (storefront, lobby, sidewalks, and parking areas) to identify potential safety, security, or cleanliness issues.
  • Observe and report any irregularities, suspicious activity, or policy violations to store management and company supervision.
  • Remain alert, vigilant, and attentive at all times during the shift.

Incident Response & Reporting 

  • Immediately report any criminal or emergency situations to management and local authorities as directed.
  • Complete detailed written reports (Daily Activity Reports, Incident Reports) in accordance with company procedures.
  • Cooperate with emergency responders and provide factual witness statements when required.

Loss Prevention Support 

  • Report observed theft or concealment of merchandise to store management immediately.
  • Prohibited Actions: Officers are not permitted to detain, question, touch, or pursue suspected shoplifters, nor request receipts or personal belongings.
  • Maintain professionalism and avoid confrontation at all times.

Professional Standards 

  • Arrive on time, in full uniform, with all required equipment (charged phone, notepad, pen, ID, and BSIS license)
  • Maintain professional grooming and demeanor throughout the shift.
  • Refrain from personal cell-phone use, eating, smoking, or unnecessary conversation while on duty.
  • Maintain neutrality and avoid profiling or discriminatory conduct under any circumstance.
  • Comply with all company, state, and client-specific policies and procedures.

Qualifications 

  • Required: Valid BSIS security guard license
  • Preferred: Experience in bouncer, events, military, or hospitality security roles emphasizing customer interaction and de-escalation.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Reliable transportation and punctual attendance history.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Work Environment 

This position operates within a high-traffic retail environment requiring frequent interaction with the public and collaboration with on-site management. Officers must demonstrate composure, adaptability, and superior customer-service orientation.
