About the Junior League and The Shop
The Junior League of Palo Alto•Mid Peninsula (JLPA•MP) is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. 

The Shop is a curated resale and retail thrift boutique located in downtown Menlo Park. As the flagship fundraiser for the JLPA•MP, revenue generated at The Shop directly funds local community programs, civic grants, and women’s leadership development. Our business model is uniquely collaborative, blending paid retail professionals with dedicated JLPA•MP community volunteers who help bring our mission to life.

Position Summary

We're hiring a Merchandising & Stock Operations Associate — a hands-on position that keeps the floor looking great. This includes managing incoming donations, inventory processing, and stockroom organization. As the backbone of our back-of-house operations, you will ensure high-end pre-loved apparel, home goods, and treasures are sorted, tagged, and floor-ready. 

Beyond merchandising and stocking, you will also cover the register and answer questions on the floor as needed. You will work alongside paid staff and League volunteers, and you'll report to The Shop Manager.

Merchandising

• Merchandise and organize the sales floor according to Shop standards and direction from the Shop Manager
• Rework displays regularly and build presentations around seasonal themes, holidays, and special sale events
• Identify standout, designer, vintage, and specialty donations and merchandise them appropriately in collaboration with the Shop Manager
• Keep racks full, sized, and straightened as merchandise sells through during the day

Stock & Back of House Operations

• Sort and evaluate incoming merchandise, deciding what makes the floor and what doesn't
• Prep items for sale: hang, tag, price, and steam
• Move merchandise out to the floor and rotate older stock 
• Pull and package items for online listings, special sales, and partner pickups
• Enter and track merchandise in our inventory and pricing systems
• Keep the back room, donation area, and processing stations organized

Donor Relations & Outreach 

• Welcome donors at drop-off, log what comes in, and provide donation receipts
• Keep donor records accurate and current 
• Help reach out to repeat donors, local businesses, and community contacts about upcoming drives
• Field donation questions by phone and email — what we accept, drop-off hours, receipts for tax purposes
• Treat donor information with discretion and care

Social Media & Content Support

• Photograph new arrivals, standout pieces, displays, and Shop events
• Help create and schedule social content featuring merchandise, sales, seasonal themes, and events
• Draft captions and other simple Shop content in a consistent voice
• Assist with responding to routine comments and messages and route other questions appropriately

Floor & Customer Support

• Ring up sales, wrap fragile items, and help customers carry out bulky purchases
• Answer questions about pricing, sale schedules, and donation guidelines
• Work alongside League volunteers 

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds as needed
• Bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach to organize merchandise and oversee operations
• Visual acuity to evaluate merchandise quality and pricing

Work Environment

• Retail store environment with variable temperature
• Interaction with diverse public, volunteers, and League members
• Occasional exposure to dust from donated items
• Fast-paced environment during peak shopping hours and special events

Compensation

 $20.00 - $23 per hour, depending on experience. 

This range is posted in compliance with California pay transparency requirements.

Schedule 

Part-time, hourly — up to 20 hours per week.

The Shop is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM. 

This is an on-site role. Variable schedule including weekends and evenings as needed to support Shop operations. Occasional evenings are required for special events, seasonal resets, and inventory work.
