Job description

Part-time, $17.00 an hour. Paid time off. Free museum passes and discounts. The purpose of this position is to assist in managing the merchandise gift shops to ensure the accurate, timely, and appropriate display and re-order of merchandise. This position will ensure that guests and employees receive quality service that reflects the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the USSRC.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

Gift Shops

  • Ensure that the gift shops are open and closed in an accurate and timely manner and that they are properly secured.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager for the cleanliness of all gift shops and related areas.
  • Prepare and distribute gift shops reports in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Respond to and, whenever possible, resolve guestsโ€™ questions and complaints promptly and in a manner that reflects Mission and Spirit of the USSRC.
  • Ensure that merchandise shops have adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
  • Systematically conduct physical inventory counts in an accurate manner.
  • Maintain adequate levels of merchandise in the gift shops through the timely placement of orders to the warehouse.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.

Gift Shop Organization and Staffing

  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager and the Manager of Human Resources for orientation and affiliation and discipline.
  • Ensure that Gift Shop staff receives timely, relevant, and appropriate training.
  • Ensure that Gift Shop staff follows all USSRC policies and procedures as well as departmental guidelines.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of tasks assigned to Gift Shop staff.
  • Ensure that staffing schedules optimize productivity and comply with contractual obligations.
  • Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager for the accurate and timely completion of related tasks and assignments.

Supervisory Responsibilitiesย ย ย ย  Yes

  • Adheres to organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Instructs, coaches, and encourages staff to support by action and example the mission and vision of the Center.
  • Demonstrates good judgment within supervision of staff.
  • Effectively monitors staff performance and offers appropriate coaching, counseling or supervision as required.
  • Completes staff evaluations, documentation, etc., on time and effectively.
  • Serves as an effective role model to staff by demonstrating exemplary work ethic.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

  • High school or G.E.D.
  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills to interact with the guests and employees.

Required Experience

Min of 2 years of experience in retail preferred.ย  Experience effectively coordinating the display and appearance of merchandise preferred.ย  Experience in inventory procedures desired.ย 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements

  • This position has the following special requirements:
  • Walking, climbing (Stairs) to access other departments and gift shops.
  • Standing for long periods of time (4-6 hours).
  • Pushing, carrying, lifting items and merchandise up to 40lbs waist high.
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching to store, stock, retrieve merchandise and supplies.
  • Reading, sight, wrist movements, feeling to operate register, conduct inventory, inspect displays, racks, and merchandise.
  • Talking, hearing to instruct employees and assist guests in person and over the phone.
