Sr. Manager, Data Analyst - Network Compliance

The Network Compliance Senior Manager Data Analyst will perform a key risk management role in the second line of defense for Capital One's network and merchant businesses to help implement the framework for the network compliance program. The Network Compliance Senior Manager is a critical member of the team responsible for delivering effective challenge and compliance advice for business processes worldwide, as well as serving as a subject matter expert to ensure the development of the network compliance program at Capital One aligns with the company's broader enterprise risk management framework.

Senior Manager Data Analysts in Network Compliance at Capital One are highly motivated Risk Management professionals with excellent organizational, leadership and communication skills. Mine data to arrive at specific and crucial information for the organization. Identify and implement process, data, metric and reporting improvements for the organization. Work with large and complex databases containing millions to billions of records. Improve operational efficiencies and effectiveness. Conduct analysis to evaluate reporting, processes and tests. Extract and analyze data to gauge LOB product offerings and compliance adherence. Consult on the design and implementation of new production and data storage systems. Develop and implement strategic tests of products, initiatives and marketing materials.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop understanding of network and merchant business and compliance processes

  • Proactively identify trends in business and compliance data and demonstrate appreciation of network payments compliance risks, including emerging external risks

  • Collaborate with first and second line functions to analyze the existing risk management program framework and applicability to the network and merchant services business; educate and influence risk management colleagues and senior leaders with respect to data utilization including nuanced or specialized considerations

  • Develop strong relationships with Business Risk, Legal, and Audit peers to support the ongoing network compliance integration

As a Data Analyst at Capital One you will leverage analytic and technical skills to innovate, build, and maintain well-managed data solutions and capabilities to tackle business problems.

On any given day you will be challenged by three types of work - Innovation, Business Intelligence and Data Management:

Innovation

  • Use Open Source/Digital technologies to mine complex, voluminous, and different varieties of data sources and platforms

  • Build well-managed data solutions, tools, and capabilities to enable self-service frameworks for data consumers

  • Demonstrate ability to explore and quickly grasp new technologies to progress varied initiatives

Business Intelligence

  • Partner with the business and compliance peers to provide consultancy and translate the business needs to design and develop tools, techniques, metrics, and dashboards for insights and data visualization

  • Drive analysis that provides meaningful insights on business strategies

Data Management

  • Drive an understanding and adherence to the principles of data quality management including metadata, lineage, and business definitions

  • Work collaboratively with appropriate Tech teams to manage security mechanisms and data access governance

  • Build and execute tools to monitor and report on data

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree specialized in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics discipline

  • Scripting experience in (Python, R, Spark, and SQL)

  • Strong desire and experience with data in various forms (data warehouses/SQL, unstructured data)

  • Experience utilizing and developing within Snowflake services

  • Strong organizational skills, clear results orientation, and focus on achieving both short and long term goals

  • Successful track record of thriving in both a highly regulated industry and a fast paced, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environment

  • Collaborative, solution-oriented mindset with solid teamwork skills; ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team

  • Highly developed interpersonal, presentation, and communications skills (written and oral) coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal, and negotiation skills

  • Ability to balance operating independently with appropriate escalation and interaction with senior leadership

  • Ability to thrive as a team player and interact with associates across functions, departments, and job levels, both inside and outside the Compliance Department;

  • Work to gain an understanding of key regulatory requirements and three lines of defense risk management framework to better support those you serve.

  • Will be on the leading edge of analytical technology with a passion for the newest and most innovative tools.

  • Possessing strong problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities in addition to strong leadership skills.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science or a related quantitative field) plus at least 7 years of experience performing data analytics, or currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Master's Degree plus at least 5 years of experience performing data analytics with an expectation that required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date.

  • At least 5 years of experience performing professional data analysis work

  • At least 5 years of experience leading and developing with open source data technologies

  • At least 2 years of experience managing people

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or PhD in a Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or a related field.

  • At least 4 years of experience with Python, R, Spark or SQL

  • At least 1 years of project management experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in Tableau

  • At least 1 year of experience utilizing and developing within AWS service

  • At least 3 years of legal, compliance, or risk management experience OR at least 3 years of regulatory experience in consumer financial services or payments industry

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
