Electrical Engineer – Consulting Engineering

Multiple Locations Available Nationwide | Hybrid Work Options

Legence is seeking Electrical Engineers with consulting engineering experience to join our growing teams across our portfolio of operating companies nationwide, including P2S and CMTA. This role may be filled at the Electrical Engineer or Senior Electrical Engineer level, depending on candidate experience, qualifications, and business needs. Final title and compensation will be aligned accordingly.


This position supports the design of high-performance electrical systems for a variety of project types, including commercial, institutional, and healthcare facilities. Ideal candidates are collaborative, technically strong, and passionate about creating safe, efficient, and sustainable building systems.


Key Responsibilities

General Engineering Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems including power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, emergency and standby power, UPS, renewable energy systems, fire alarm, and lowvoltage systems (IT, security, access control, life safety).
  • Prepare, review, and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Apply sound engineering principles, standard methodologies, and industry best practices to solve complex design challenges.
  • Coordinate with architects, owners, contractors, and internal engineering teams through clear verbal and written communication.
  • Design and specify system components to meet project requirements, budgets, and schedules.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and field conditions for conformance with contract documents.

PreDesign & Design Support (ProjectScale Dependent)

  • Review existing asbuilt documentation and perform field investigations.
  • Prepare feasibility studies, schematic designs, and early-stage engineering concepts.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, load calculations, and system layouts.
  • Perform energy and power system calculations, modeling, and analysis (as applicable).
  • Support coordination of design schedules and multidisciplinary deliverables.

Advanced / Senior-Level Responsibilities (Experience Dependent)

  • Lead small to medium-sized projects from concept through construction.
  • Perform complex power system studies (Short Circuit, Coordination, Arc Flash).
  • Prepare construction estimates, specifications, and technical narratives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support technical development within the team.
  • Participate in client engagement and business development activities.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field.
  • Previous experience in MEP consulting engineering (additional experience required for senior-level roles).
  • Experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, or healthcare projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD required; Revit experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes.
  • FE/EIT registration preferred; PE licensure or ability to obtain PE is a plus.
  • Experience with healthcare codes (HCAI/OSHPD) and Net Zero / sustainable design is a plus.
  • LEED Accreditation is a plus.
